Bill from NYC Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I know he is old, but he sure is better than what we have. If we could get him for a short term contract, I would be all for it.
SWVABillsFan Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Is he not a right DE though? If he is a left I am game over what we have. Kelsay is so over paid. If we do not get a good FA DE I hope we draft a good one and send Kelsay packing.
Navy Chief Navy Pride Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I don't think he has even made a visit to anyone yet. That guy plays lights out every play though and would definitly upgrade our DE position. Can never pass up good vet leadership.
atlbillsfan1975 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 He sounds like a guy you wait and see about. I mean you go thru FA your draft and who you get signed. Even minicamps. Then you can offer him a 1 year deal for league minimum for his years. He looks like he would be a third down DE only. He is what he is.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I agree. Someone brought up Vonnie Holliday yesterday and I was definitely underwhelmed by that suggestion. Berry though is a pretty dynamic player. Gonna do some poking around.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Bertrand Berry from Scouts Inc: Birth Date August 15, 1975 Birth Place Houston, TX Height 6-3 Weight 260 lbs. Age 33 Position DE Experience 11 years College Notre Dame Grade: 71 | Grade means that player is a good starter. Alert: None Comment: Berry is a blue-collared, hard working defensive end who gets everything out of his body that can be found. He is a decent athlete with adequate speed and agility, but compensates for his lack of top athleticism with a huge motor and top technique. He does a great job of reading blocks, locating the level of the ball and can adjust on the move. He does an excellent job using his hands to keep blockers at bay and rarely stays stuck on blocks for very long. He is more productive when away from the point of attack because he can struggle to hold his ground, but shows top effort and good angles on pursuit. He has developed a good series of counter moves as a pass-rusher and does not give up on plays. His biggest asset, aside from technique, is his initial quickness as a pass-rusher and he will flash a decent burst to close on the quarterback. He lacks the bulk and strength to be a force against the run, but he can be very effective as long as he isn't asked to play in a two-gap defense. He needs to be able to run and go to the ball. He has had a durability issue
Wagon Circler Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I knew he was a free agent so I focused on him in the play-offs. I thought he played very well. Much better pass rusher than anybody we have. 34 though.
roy875 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Bertrand Berry from Scouts Inc: Birth Date August 15, 1975 Thats My B-Day! I say we sign him immediately.

He has had a durability issue Height, weight and comment about Berry, with the exception of the durability issue, are similar to the way scouts describe Everette Brown. That is why I would like the Bills to acquire him if they are able to draft Brown. Berry would be a great mentor for him. Thanks San Jose for the info, maybe this will calm some of the angst about Brown's size and abilty to play DE in the NFL.
