Steely Dan
Nate Washington-WR- Titans Mar. 2 - 8:29 pm et Nate Washington's contract with the Titans is worth $27 million over six seasons, with $9 million guaranteed. He'll definitely start at this rate. Tennessee's incumbent No. 1 receiver, Justin Gage, has a contract paying $1M a year less. OC Mike Heimerdinger's vertical offense will suit Washington's deep speed, but Gage is still the better bet in PPR leagues. Washington should lead the Titans in receiving yards. Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Does this seem as dumb a contract to you as it does to me? Last year he had 40 rec. for 631 yards and 3 TD's. I wouldn't have gone over $4 million guaranteed. DasNootz
Ouch... that contract is terrible. Coles and TJ must be happy.
Steely Dan
Ouch... that contract is terrible. Coles and TJ must be happy. That's what I was thinking. TJ deserves a much bigger contract than that and he'll be hard pressed to get one. That's gotta burn his buttocks.
H2o
It's a 6 year deal which means that it averages about $4.5 million per season. That's less than what Michael Claton got from the Bucs and he put up lesser #'s on the field. Washington was also the #3 WR in Pittsburgh behind Holmes and Ward. Reed has less yards and less TD's with 16 more catches than Washington. Washington is a viable deep threat and I think that $4.5 million a year is a fair price really. Hossage
It is always a good idea to overpay for players from a superbowl team. Its not like they tank the next year or anything.

The other thing is that if the Steelers thought he was a starting caliber player they never would have drafted Holmes, IMO. Here are some other receivers contracts. I realize that some of these guys are in their first contracts. Lee Evans Wide Receiver 10/2/2008: Signed a four-year, $37.25 million contract extension through 2012. The deal includes $18.25 million guaranteed and a first-year salary of $11,730,770. Another $3 million is available through incentives. 2009: $9 million, 2010: $5.4 million (+ $3 million roster bonus), 2011-2012: $3.025 million (+ $1 million roster bonuses, 2013: Free Agent. Cap charge: $9.87 million (2009). Santonio Holmes Wide Receiver 7/28/2006: Signed a five-year, $8.11 million contract. The deal includes $5.42 million guaranteed. 2009: $700,000, 2010: $755,000, 2011: Free Agent Hines Ward Wide Receiver 9/5/2005: Signed a five-year, $25.83 million contract. The deal contains $9 million guaranteed, including a $5 million signing bonus. 2009: $5.8 million, 2010: Free Agent Terrell Owens Wide Receiver 6/2/2008: Signed a four-year, $34 million contract. The deal contains $13 million guaranteed, including a $12.9 million signing bonus and $100,000 of his first-year base salary. 2009: $2.67 million (+ $3.1 million roster bonus due in June), 2010: $7.5 million, 2011: $7 million, 2012: Free Agent. Cap charges: $8.995 million (2009), $10.725 million (2010), $10.225 million (2011). Reggie Wayne Wide Receiver 3/2/2006: Signed a six-year, $39.5 million contract. The deal included a $12.5 million signing bonus. 2009: $4.94 million, 2010: $5.47 million, 2011: $5.95 million, 2012: Free Agent. Cap charge: $7.44 million (2009). Randy Moss Wide Receiver 3/3/2008: Signed a three-year, $27 million contract. The deal contains $14.1 million guaranteed, including a $12 million signing bonus. 2009: $4.9 million (+ $1.5 million "signing bonus"), 2010: $6.4 million, 2011: Free Agent Steve Smith Wide Receiver 5/8/2007: Signed a six-year, $43.85 million contract. The deal included a $9.3 million signing bonus and a $6 million roster bonus in the second year. 2009: $3.4 million (+ $2 million roster bonus), 2010: $5.75 million, 2011: $7 million, 2012: $7.75 million, 2013: Free Agent I couldn't think of other guys with his stats to compare. Steely Dan
Housh got a 5 year $40 million dollar contract with $15 million in gauranteed money that he accepted from Seattle. I'd say that's more in line with his talents.

JPL7
Haha anybody still think we overpaid Lee Evans yet? we absolutely overpaid. ive thought that since day one. thats ridiculious. nearly 40 million for 4 years?? no way! i say it should have been that amount of money over 6 years. apuszczalowski
I think the Bills overpayed for Evans, but only because they never use him. Evans is worth what they payed, if they actually throw him the ball more then a handful of times per game.
