Speculation on Fitzpatrick's contract

Recommended Posts

Nothing major, but something to consider. To my knowledge, here are the facts...

1. Fitzpatrick's deal with the Bills is undisclosed.

2. His salary last season for Cinci was $932,520.00.

3. Trent has two years left on his contract, '09 for $460,000.00 and '10 for $550.000.00.

Given the fact that Fitz was signed very early in the FA period, I'm assuming that he struck a deal in the neighborhood of $900k to $1mil per season. IF that turns out to be the case, how will Trent respond to his backup making more than double? Will the Bills have to renegotiate Trent based on Fitzpatrick's contract? I highly doubt that RF took a 50% pay cut on day 1 of FA to join the Bills.

UPDATE: Fitzpatrick's contract #'s are in. per rotoworld. 2/27/2009: Signed a three-year contract. 2009: $1.8 million, 2010: $2.3 million, 2011: $2.8 million, 2012: free agent.

So in '09 Fitz makes $1.8 mil while Edwards makes $460.000 and in '10 Fitz gets $2.3 while Edwards makes $550.000.

Does Trent play out '09 like a good soldier or will he or his agent cry foul?

Does Dick have other plans for a fellow Ivy-leaguer than simply a non-threatening backup?

its a completely different situation---Edwards is still playing under a contract for a 3rd round draft pick, while Fitzpatrick was on the open market and is a veteran player now, who has to make more than 850K I believe, which is the minimum for veteran players. Edwards will more than make up for that in 2 years if he can improve enough and get the Bills to the playoffs.
