Here's something I found in his scouting report in PFW's 2005 Draft Preview:

" Arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in March'04. Also accused of shouting racial slurs at black passengers in a vehicle in front of him at a fast food restaurant along with teammate Cole Smith, who was charged with public intoxication. Hangartner denied making any racial slurs, and he took a polygraph which corroborated his claim. Both players were suspended from all spring practice and forced to attend a multicultural course, perform 24 hours of community service and complete an alcohol awareness program. Hangartner fulfilled those requirements and returned to the team in the summer. The DWI charge against him was eventually dropped due to lack of evidence."

DWI charge dropped for lack of evidence. And his drunk teammate gets arrested, Hantgartner gets accused of yelling racial slurs, which he denies and he is vindicated with a lie detector test. Would you want to take a lie detector test if you were lying?

Good thing we are innocent until proven guilty in this country

Let's just hope he has a mean streak on the field.

Then I guess you're not happy that he was suspended and had to do the community service & go to the awareness classes.

Why did he not protest the suspension & the other stuff if he was so innocent?

Really, I don't care what he did 5 years ago either-as long as he's grown up since then. The only thing to remember is that he or some innocent could have been killed that night if he was drinking & driving. That's something the drunks on this board still don't seem to understand.

Racial slurs ARE a big deal from both sides of the street! I hope he has grown up and learned from his immaturity and I hope some posters on here will take it more seriously also.

The evidence says he never uttered racial slurs.

Then why did you write this post (if you don't care)?

Lie detector tests are worthless. They are merely a distraction during an interrogation designed to have you 'confess'.

That said, if the dude can play center, I;m good with it.

So Albany,

You never drove while intoxicated when you were in college (or of college age)?

In addition he wasn't pulled over for reckless driving...it was an incident at a fast food drive-thru.

I hate to admit that I drove while intoxicated quite often when I was a teenager and as a college student. I think I'm not alone on that. I am lucky that nothing bad ever came of it.
