Typical TBD Guy
Here are the 7 starting positions that need to be filled: WR: Hardy wasn't the #2 man needed to take heat off of Evans, and Reed is nothing more than a good #3. TE: Royal was cut. LG: Dockery was cut. C: Fowler and Preston were terrible last year and are not expected to be re-signed. DE: Chris Kelsay. Enough said. DT: Kyle Williams is a nice backup. OLB: Ellison is not even a nice backup, and Crowell isn't returning. The Bills have the 11th and 43rd overall picks in the draft, which are both high enough to land prospects with a high probability of starting immediately in September. So that leaves 5 starting-caliber players that the team must grab in the coming days. Coles would be an excellent fit at #2 WR. I'm much more skeptical about Winborn at OLB and Hangartner at C and Simmons at LG. Sounds like more of the same 3rd tier scrubs we've been entertaining since 2004. We haven't heard anything regarding free agents to fill the TE/DT/DE voids. The front office is probably expecting to fill the TE position with a high draft pick, but the silence with the defensive line is very, very troubling. Do they even acknowledge the weaknesses there, or do they honestly believe a healthy Schobel will make everything okay?
silvermike
The Bills will not be competitive in 2009 barring a major miracle from Edwards, Lynch, and Evans. Check back in 2010, the 11 year anniversary of our rebuilding plan.

The fans are the ones thinking its the teams biggest need, when in fact, even with an injured Schobel and very little pass rush, the defence was an improvement over the year before, and it didn't cost them any games (it wasthe only reason they were still in most games) The offence needs the most work, unless the defence is also going to take on the role of scoring all the points forthe team too. So far they have looked at a RB, found a guy to compete with hamdan for the #2 spot, had a long meeting with a big upgrade at #2 WR, and have scheduled vists or had visits with a CB, LB, C, and OG They may rather look at the Draft for a TE, and DE (if they want to upgrade the DE spot) sincethey might not think the guys available at thosespots currentlyare worth what they will be asking
cody
You, and many others, may think the Bills need 7 new starters this year. The Bills will not get 7 new starters this year. Out of Reed,Fine,Whittle,Kelsey,Williams & Ellison; we can expect that at least 3 of these players will be the starters in '09.

Brandon
The offence needs the most work, unless the defence is also going to take on the role of scoring all the points forthe team too. You're right, but that's been the case since probably 2002. The defense needs some help, but a piss poor offense has been the achilles heel that has prevented them from being competitive for the last several seasons. They've finished no better than 25th in total offense in the last six seasons and it would not surprise me if they were dead last in the league during that time period in TD passes and passing yardage. Unfortunately, the Bills front office is too stupid to figure this one out.
