BADOLBILZ Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 They may not need a tackle, but they always take the best player and not what their need is If he is there they will take him or trade w/ someone that wants him at 11, if he falls that far Since Marv got here, they've always drafted for need first. Whitner/McCargo/Lynch/Poz/McKelvin/Hardy. Of that bunch, MAYBE McKelvin was the best available at the time. And in fairness, that is not just in retrospect, the Bills of late have a reputation of reaching for need.

Tim Anderson's Lunch Pail Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 The same was said about Jason Peters when he came in. Obviously a lot of people on this board don't think that's changed. But he came into Buffalo very overweight as an UDFA. Dude, check your facts. Peters came here as a tight end. A very large tight end, but not too large to play offensive tackle. A guy that big can't be sloppy playing tight end, even in college ball. That's why they moved him to OT, because he was so athletic for this size. Weight was not an issue.
drinkTHEkoolaid Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 i dont want anything to do with andre smith unless its on day 2.

You're dead-on right with that post. I've explored some of the negative consequences of the "reach for need" approach here.
Paup 1995MVP Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Come on guys, lets wake up and think about this for a minute. Way too much credence is given to the combine. They don't play football at the combine. They run, lift weights and do drills. Have any of you watched Andre Smith in his career at Alabama? I have not watched him closely, but have heard he was a beast in what is arguably the best conference in America. So because of immature behavior at the combine, he is no longer a great football player? I think NOT!!! What matters is how he plays on the field, not what he does in the confines of Indianapolis. The Bills can watch the film of how he played and decide from there. If he is that good and will fall to #11, we should trade Peters for high draft picks and take Mr. Smith. And you know what we do with the picks, fill our other needs.
Astrobot Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 He has larger feet. And you know what that means... More surface area to trip Trent..
jangalang Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I'd take him in a heartbeat and move him to OG. Smith would be one of the most dominant OG's in the game in 2-3 years. Take that chance.

jangalang Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Top 20 pick for a guard? Brandon Albert went #15 to the Chiefs last year. What does it really matter though? There's no way the Bills would pick Smith.
Mr. WEO Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 A guy at the combine needs an agent to tell him "hey, the combine's not over yet"??? Too stupid for even Buffalo to pick.
