The_Philster
First we have this gem http://www.buffalonews.com/opinion/columns...ory/586644.html Why can’t the NFL follow the example of other professional sports? Baseball, basketball, and hockey have their all-star games in the middle of the season. If the NFL had the Pro Bowl smack dab in the middle of their 16 game season, this might also be used as a bye week for all the teams. Just a suggestion. Obviously this is someone doesn't know football as much as he claims..the NFL is too violent a league for an all-star game to be held midseason. Too much risk of injury and as far as using it for a Bye week, players (and their coaches) actually utilize their bye week to recuperate from the aches and pains of playing. Let's also consider the fact that the networks pay for 17 weeks of regular season football. Then we have this http://www.buffalonews.com/opinion/columns...ory/586643.html No other city wants the Buffalo Bills simply because they know that if the football team moves to their city the fans in Buffalo will follow them. This person really thinks little of the people of Buffalo...first in insulting the way we live and then by saying that we'd actually continue to follow them if they left The Buffalo News really needs to screen their letters better

SageAgainstTheMachine
The first one is not so much "stupid" as it is ignorant to the nature of the NFL season. The second one, on the other hand, is one of the dumbest things I've ever had the misfortune of reading. Anybody who thinks a Bills fan would just pack up their family and move to a different city to follow a football team isn't in touch with reality one bit. Spiderweb
As long as Albany exists (in the political sense), New York State is history. A great State ruined...... NY has some of the most ridiculous taxes in the nation, and yet it's always in a financial mess (even before the worldwide economic collapse). Buffalo is my old home town of 30 years, yet I can't imagine a scenario where I would willingly come back home. I miss two sisters who still live there, the people in general, the Bills and the Sabres, friends, and yet...... Buffalo and New York garnered the distain from most of this nation the old fashioned way, they earned it. How can so many local and State representatives be so lacking year after year, generation after generation and continue to get elected, is mind boggling. I will always be a Buffalonian, and proud of it, but it's a financial wreck. I have a family to care and provide for them the best I can, and Buffalo NY doesn't favor this economically. DC Tom
Maybe they should make the pro bowl a flag football game, no pads, and played at half speed. Basically, a Pro Bowl walk-through.

Didn't Robert Edwards - the RB from New England - tear three ligaments in a flag football game? Nobody cares about the Pro Bowl. Scrap it and maybe do an awards ceremony like the NHL does after the season, or else have a skills competition/trick play showcase.
ddaryl
I think 99% of Bills fans would completely give up on the Bills if they left buffalo or WNY... I know I would stop watching football all together if the Bills cease to exist in WNY... also the douche who wrote that opinion piece obviously has issues with Buffalo because I don't view Buffalonians the way that person does... Maybe he should get out to the suburbs a little before trashing the entire areas population...

lets_go_bills
I honestly don't know what to do with the pro bowl. Something does have to change because it is a joke. I absolutley love football and watch as much of it as I can, but I can't stand the pro bowl. I hate all-star games in general. But I think that having the game mid-season and making it the bye week for teams is a good idea. Of course there's injury risk, but that is something you can't avoid in football. I think it's a better time for it than after or before the SB. And it certainly would make fantasy football better too because you don't have to change your lineup due to the constant byes. To respond to the title of your thread, I never underestimate the stupidity of "people" i agree with you.......i never watch the probowl..............anytime you let the fans pick who is playing and not let the players stats dictate who is playing it is a sham........if they want to do something different maybe they should just throw a huge dinner party at the end of the year for the best players at each position and call them a all pro...... Buftex
personally, I think the Pro Bowl is kinda fun to watch...just can't take it as a serious game. The fumblerooski play this year was funny Sorry if this lumps me in with the stupid people of which you speak, but like you, I want to like the Pro Bowl, but I don't think I have watched an entire Pro Bowl game since the mid-1990's when the Bills had heavy representation. I tuned in a little this year, for the obligatory Bruce Smith and Ralph Wilson tributes, and just to see how Marshawn was doing. But, how about this: I enjoy those QB challanges they always show in late July, just prior to the Hall of Fame Game. To me, they are far more entertaining, and fun, then the Pro Bowl. They are filmed in Hawaii, during the Pro Bowl festivitiese, edited down, and shown in the summer. Why not expand them to include specific skills competitions for each position, invite the voters choices, and let these guys show off their skills? You could scrap the game altogether. Being an NHL fan, I much prefer the skills competitions of their All-Star weekend than the actual game. The NBA (which I like too, I know I am in the minority on that) not so much. Given that the NFL has us hooked on such thrilling tv as the NFL Draft, and now the NFL combine, I am sure they could lure viewers in for a weekend of skills competitions, at mid season. cantankerous
I think the probowl is a sham and should be done away with entirely. Then don't watch it. It's for entertainment. And I thought this year's game was indeed entertaining...You can say it's a sham and the players don't play @ 100% which the latter is true, but for a true football fan just wanting to see another week of their favorite players? It's no sham.
