Does anyone find it odd

less than 2 years after Marv and the "circle of trust" invested $73.5M in the defensive end position?

It's a good thing we have new people in place in the front office so that similar mistakes won't happen again. <_<

It's a major need because the guys behind Schobel are no better than a backup on any team. You saw what happened when Schobel went down. And yes, they are WAY overpaid.

Overpaid? Yes. Underachieving? Yes. Schobel was given that kind of money for his many years of service in Buffalo I believe and Kelsay was just a mistake. Nothing we can really do but grin and bare it. Despite what we have it is surely a position of need on this team. Ellis could develope if he hits the weight room HARD this offseason, but we still need atleast one more real threat to get to the QB. Schobel isn't getting any younger.

It the message boards that think DE is a huge need. Our leading pass rusher missed all but 2 games last season and these retards are sitting at their keyboards trying to figure out why we had no pass rush last year.

Here we go again..... In 2007 the Bills defense wast ranked near last in the league. We couldnt stop the run, and ou stud MLB broke his arm on the 3rd game. Last year we Bring in Stroud, Kawika Mitchel and POZ is healthy. Schoble hurts his foot and all the sudden everyone slams on the DL cuz we cant generate pressure. It makes perfect sense to me. Not to mention, we have a speed rushing rookie in Ellis that will surely see time as a blitzing DE across from a presumably Healthy Aaron Schoeble next season. All the laptop draft gurus are creaming their pants over a crappy DE draft class that is chocked full of unproven,3-4 tweener OLBs that may transition to a 4-3 because these same people see small DEs as potential Dwight Freeny's. Its Dumb.

Problem with your though process is that Schobel is getting no younger. We also play a otational system where mre than one DE is needed. I find your confidence in Ellis a little shocking ... did he show us anything last year? I am not suggesting that we over react and reach with the first round pick but DE should be considered.

The other problem with this thought process is that in addition to Schobel being injured last year, he will be 32 years old this season. There's no guarantee he'll be the player that he once was, and he was pretty good, not great.

Also, Chris Ellis may or may not pan out. So your argument is based upon a best case scenario.

Finally, similar to our heated discussions about Jabari Greer, not only can you not have too many good cornerbacks, you also cannot have too many good pass rushers. (See Giants, New York and Steelers, Pittsburgh)

I have no idea where this DE major need talk comes from. They have Ellis, Schobel and others. I think it's a little premature to write off Ellis. I was disappointed in him last year but players usually make their biggest jump from the first to the second year. I see a big DT as a much bigger need. Two huge DT's in the middle would force teams to run outside making the DE's a lot more effective on running plays. Also if these huge guys could open holes for the LB's on passing plays it should enable the LB's to get sacks as well. DT is a huge need.

I'd say DT, C, TE are the three biggest needs. In that order. JMO.

Well, B.J. Raji is most likely gone at #11. So do you think we should take Ron Brace or Peria Jerry at #11? Or would you then go Mack? Either way it sounds like you'd take most of these guys or Pettigrew before Orakpo, Brown, Maybin.

As I said earlier, best player available, tie breaker to the highest need...although we all don't agree on what that is either.

Who says DE is a "huge need"????

It seems only the fans and the "talking heads" think Buffalo needs a huge upgrade at DE because they looked at the stats and saw the Bills sack count drop without Schoebel.

The defence improved alot last year, and it may not have become great, it was good enough for to be a playoff team. The biggest needs of this team is to improve the dreadful offence, thats what held them back and cost them games. Improve the offence and the defence will get better because they won't be pressured to not make a mistake and cost the team the game because the offence struggles to get the lead back

I don't know the facts about the names yet but I just don't think DE is a high priority. There are greater needs for this team.

I don't find it odd but I do find it irritating and frustrating.

Pretty much. The fact of the matter is that DE is a big need on this team. The front office messed up bigtime (suprirse surprise) when they overpaid Kelsay and extended Schobel with 3 years left on his deal.

The sad thing is that the same bozos are still in place now so it's hard to imaging things changing at OBD.
