In space no one can hear Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 The Providence Journal reports that the Patriots and Bills have emerged as the "top landing spots" for free agent Fred Taylor. New England could view Taylor as a Corey Dillon-type addition who could battle Sammy Morris and Laurence Maroney for early-down carries. Buffalo is concerned with Marshawn Lynch's availability for next season following his arrest on three gun charges. It's worth noting that Bills head coach Dick Jauron was on the Jaguars' staff when Taylor was drafted in 1998. Feb. 21 - 2:06 pm et Source: Providence Journal
Glass To The Arson Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 holla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i just saw that.
LABills08 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I doubt Lynch will be suspended for the entire season, possibly a 3-4 game suspension...
PNW_Bills_Fan Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 meh if you know what i mean Can't hurt to go after a guy like Fred. He will play while ML is out and then Fred will get hurt. He will come back and ML with get hurt.
silvermike Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 He's a talented guy, he probably won't be too expensive, and he'll be a better 3rd RB option than Xavier Omon and Bruce Hall. Which counts, when our #1 RB option is being prosecuted. I'd be happy to see him play for the Bills.
Stussy109 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Can't hurt to go after a guy like Fred. He will play while ML is out and then Fred will get hurt. He will come back and ML with get hurt. Do you have any triple bagger stock picks?
Kingfish Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Would we have to wait until free agency starts to sign him?
FutureBillsGM Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Would we have to wait until free agency starts to sign him? Free agency "starts" when the NFL year ends and the players who are going to be free agents are no longer under contract wit htheir previous teasm. Fred was released, doesn't have a contract and can sign at any time.
nucci Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Would we have to wait until free agency starts to sign him? Not if he was released. Only if his contract expired. Still don't see it happening.
VOR Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Lynch will at best miss a game. Taylor is 33, been in the league for 11 years, and his best years are behind him. Pass.
TheLynchTrain Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Does this mean we make up for the draft pick we gave away to Jacksonville for Rob Johnson?
Kettle Creek Football Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Lynch will at best miss a game. Taylor is 33, been in the league for 11 years, and his best years are behind him. Pass. What would it hurt signing him? BTW, it would be ironic if the Bills signed him. Imagine if they drafted him instead of trading for Rob Johnson?
2020 Our Year For Sure Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 What would it hurt signing him? It wouldn't hurt, but I doubt we'll make as hard a push for him as New England* will. While Taylor would be the best back on their roster, we have TWO guys who are better.
VOR Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 What would it hurt signing him? What would be the point? They have Lynch for the whole year, maybe minus a game, and have Fred Jackson. Then there's Omon. BTW, it would be ironic if the Bills signed him. Imagine if they drafted him instead of trading for Rob Johnson? If they hadn't traded for RJ and had their 1st rounder that year, they probably would have taken Tra Thomas, since they drafted Antowain Smith the year before.
The_Philster Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Does this mean we make up for the draft pick we gave away to Jacksonville for Rob Johnson? you DO know that Taylor wasn't the only player picked up with the draft picks we traded away for Johnson, of course
ans4e64 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 He's coming here to visit next week, per kffl. (And the Patriots, too)
In space no one can hear Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009 you DO know that Taylor wasn't the only player picked up with the draft picks we traded away for Johnson, of course He probably does, but when the player Jacksonville picked with the 4rth rounder in the deal (Tavian Banks) rushed for only 222 yards in his career with only 1 TD and was out of the league after 2 years, it softened the blow of losing that pick. Fred Taylor on the other hand has been a beast throughout his career (despite injuries). That being said, if you followed the draft at the time, and were aware of what our needs were, I think we would have used the 9th pick on Tra Thomas(OT), who ultimately was chosen by the Eagles at #11.
