billsevans Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 SI.com's Tony Pauline expects USC MLB Rey Maualuga to skip the position workouts at next week's NFL Combine. The linebacker drills test explosiveness, ball skills, change of direction, and lateral movement. Maualuga's ability to play on three downs is in question, so it's surprising he wouldn't want to show that he can cover. Linebackers that only play on first and second down don't usually go in the first round.
billieve420 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Good wasn't interested in drafting him anyways at #11. We already have 2 guys that have a difficult time covering in space and adding another guy with the same skillset wouldn't be smart. The only LB I would take @ 11 is Curry if he by some miracle falls to us.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Firstly let me say I love Maualuga...great attitude, temperament, nasty player. But it seems like it's a very clear consensus that he has limitations to his game and like you say, might only be a two down linebacker. If this is indeed accurate, it's hard to make a case for drafting him at #11 in view of his limited value. In the right scheme and on the right team he would be a great addition. I think for the Bills this is less so the case.
BuckyFillUps Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 CUshing at !! wouldnt be so bad. I'd take him over Rey.
dickie do-right Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Comments from the senior bowl mentioned that cushing is a 3 down LB and that Rey couldnt cover his shadow.
