John Adams Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 That would explain a lot, but I think that you can only do a "Borat" like project once. People's antennae go up otherwise. You know, fool me once, shame on you, etc... Exactly. Shame on you.
Wooderson Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 He just doesn't seem like the type of actor that would go to this length for a publicity stunt, IMO. B.S. Cohen had always been a goofball and did the same type of humor throughout his tenure. Phoenix has never done anything like this before and has been very successful, what now would cause him to pretend to be hoped up on drugs just to promote a film? It doesn't make sense to me.
Steely Dan Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Well, if you are suggesting that JP is going to play this character, as a persona, for two years, I'd say that is something other than "shtick", and a lot closer to, "crazy motherfuc#er". While I think he is overrated as an actor, he certainly doesn't need a stupid publicity circus act to get roles, and make plenty of cash. That would explain a lot, but I think that you can only do a "Borat" like project once. People's antennae go up otherwise. You know, fool me once, shame on you, etc... And John may be right, but the Phoenix family does have a history of drug dependence, after all. Great interview with Blago. I loved the way it started out..... Blago: I've always wanted to be on Letterman in the worst way. DL: Well.... I'd say this is the worst way. That was funny as hell!!
Dante Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Notice how often he avoids eye contact with Letterman. He keeps avoiding Dave so that he doesn't break the character and laugh after one of his jokes. Also, whenever Dave cracked a funny line, it really looked like JP had to work to suppress a smile. Thats what convinced me it was a act.
