No, the Onondaga County legislator from Salina didn't lose her purse there. And no, she doesn't need you to wire her $3,500, pronto, so she can pay her hotel bill and get home. The thing is, some wily Internet crook who apparently reeled in Rapp with a phishing e-mail is now writing to a bunch of Rapp's e-mail contacts in Rapp's name, telling them she's in deep overseas trouble and to send lots of money to get her out of the mess. ... Rapp suspects the problem stems from an e-mail she received Thursday. It looked like official Hotmail correspondence, she said. It told her that, due to high traffic, Hotmail's lines had become jammed and the service needed to get rid of inactive accounts.
