Kelly the Dog Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 One of the very best American fiction writers who ever lived. The Rabbit books are one of the more remarkable achievements in fiction, where two of the five won The Pulitzer Prize. An amazing talent, who will be sorely missed. Basically, he took the same character, and every decade or so, from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, and 2000s, wrote a new book about him, as if he were ten years older. Rabbit is Rich was one of the best books I ever read, although all five are good in their own right. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9...;show_article=1
SageAgainstTheMachine Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 For me, his most memorable piece of work was his first hand account of Ted Williams' last at bat. I'm a Yankees fan, and it almost brought tears to my eyes.
tennesseeboy Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Rabbit is Dead. I have a friend in Ukraine who is doing her doctorate on Updike and I've been sending her all of his recent publications and short stories. She'll be heartbroken.
Cugalabanza Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I remember reading his story "A&P" in high school and loving it. Then I read Rabbit Run and that's still one of my all time favorites.
