VABills Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Technically, socialism is not even a form of government. It is an economic system. Democracy and socialism are not incompatible. Many aspects of our society are socialized: the post office, police, fire dept., public education. It is very convenient to use socialism as a dirty word, but in my opinion it's a matter of degree and how well it's executed. And the post office loses money, should be dumped and turned over for private enterprise. Fedex and UPS would do a fine job, do it for a profit and not on the taxes of the people. I won't even start on police, fire and education.
The Big Cat Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 So you saying if socialism is implemented by good people it's a good system? I would vouch for that. Again, using Sweden as a model.
Chef Jim Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I would vouch for that. Again, using Sweden as a model. Then move to Sweden.

Jim in Anchorage Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 You obviously believe that white people commit grossly more crimes compared to their black counterparts. Read my lips. I said Obama supporters. At no point, regardless of the mind readers on this board, did I mention race.
Chef Jim Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Well, c'mon man! Which is it? A socialist country or an oppressed country? Well if you don't think socialism isn't a form of oppression, then you don't make enough money.
Cugalabanza Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Fedex and UPS would do a fine job I respectfully disagree.
The Big Cat Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Then move to Sweden. Yep, that's what I implied. By saying it's a "good" system, I really meant it's the "BEST" system, and that us war-mongering Americans are a bunch of idiots. För Sverige – I tiden!!
VABills Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I respectfully disagree. You must be one of the wonderful mail carriers who's union is just like the all powerful teacher unions. Pretty much untouchable and worthless.
The Big Cat Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Well if you don't think socialism isn't a form of oppression, then you don't make enough money. Ask a Swede if they live in an "oppressed country." Again, never once said it wasn't "oppressive" in nature, as you imply.
Cugalabanza Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Read my lips. I said Obama supporters. At no point, regardless of the mind readers on this board, did I mention race. It's very cute and coy that you keep playing this angle. Meanwhile, we all know what was implied. I am not a racist for pointing this out.
blzrul Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 So you saying if socialism is implemented by good people it's a good system? Here we go - define "good". All I am saying is that as a concept socialism isn't the evil it's often represented to be. But as it's been implemented in many countries, it's clearly not been successful. As long as fallible human beings are involved, there will be such challenges. There are many socialistic practices in America today. Some, like feeding school children who would otherwise go hungry, are good in terms of the principle. How that's accomplished, maybe not so much - bureaucracy, greed and incompetence could drive up the cost of the service and imperfect administration could exclude some children who needed it. But that doesn't mean the notion of feeding hungry children is bad.
The Big Cat Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 untouchable and worthless. Two strong and unverifiable choices of words, if I do say so.
Cugalabanza Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 ...just like the all powerful teacher unions... That's a valid point. Nothing done a grand scale is ever perfect.
VABills Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Two strong and unverifiable choices of words, if I do say so. And yet so true.

Capitalism isn't perfect either.
erynthered Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 That's a valid point. Nothing done a grand scale is ever perfect. Lets get universal healthcare that the libs is this country want so desperatly. Grand scale, indeed.
KD in CA Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 It's very cute and coy that you keep playing this angle. Meanwhile, we all know what was implied. I am not a racist for pointing this out. No, but neither is he a racist for saying it. It's a pretty well established fact that felons tend to vote for Dems, be they black, white, yellow, or blue. So it was pretty silly for people to get worked up about that (or any) joke.
PastaJoe Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 I want military marching bands , forget the rest of the BS. Military marching bands are parading now...
Kelly the Dog Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Read my lips. I said Obama supporters. At no point, regardless of the mind readers on this board, did I mention race. One does not have to say "I am a fukktard" for others to see and know that one is indeed a fukktard.
