The Jokeman Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 So Ben killed Locke. Go figure. Though did he kill only after finding out Jin was alive? Because in all honesty it looked like Ben's demeanor changed once he learned that Jin was alive or perhaps I over reacted to his reaction when learned that. I'm also glad the writers cleared up who skinny black guy (sorry I can't remember his name) was as at when started showing him pushing John around in a wheel chair I started to think oh no was that time we saw him pushing around John as an orderly a flash forward and we didn't realize it was but he cleared things up nicely for us. All in all last night's episode was pretty good and hope John remembers Walt's dream about the people on the island with him now intend to hurt him.
Hazed and Amuzed Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 After all is said and done Ben may turn out to be one of the best TV villains ever. The guy is genius and sadistic.
UConn James Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 No. Last night's episode was pretty boring. The best part was the final minute with Locke talking to the new guy. So apparently Ben isn't "special" or "chosen" anymore, or else he wouldn't have crashed along with the plane. Locke seems to know that the island is done with Ben. Funny too how Whidmore seems to be a good guy in all of this. I don't know that the island is done with Ben... as Widmore said, there's a war coming. Now, it's all convoluted as to what exactly the sides are in the war. Is Widmore part of Dharma or is he going to try to rejoin the Others/hostiles? Just don't know enough to decide if Widmore is 'good' or 'bad' --- and I get the sense that there's a whole moral relativism thing brewing where no one is either one or the other; they're just acting in their own selfish wont. Some may be more evil than others in our eyes, for sure. It has me thinking back to Locke playing games, and that website "Lost is a game" as well as Desmond's line from the repeat last night that it's all a game. It's going to be interesting to see how Locke reacts to Ben. Whether he wants vengeance or whether he sees that what happened had to happen in order for them all to get back to the island. Locke needed to die and he died. Just odd to see Locke get to that point with a noose around his neck... even with his character's floating b/w faith and elation and then doubt and depression, it just seemed odd that after so many times of his faith and his purpose / destiny being renewed that he would just give up. I just wonder about the Others... whether they too are conning him into doing their bidding, telling him that he's their man, and then they're just going to dump him. Jokeman, I'm pretty sure that it wasn't after finding out about Jin, but you make a point that I was going to bring up about Ben's demeanor doing a 180. It was right after Locke said he was going to see a woman named Eloise Hawking in LA. Ben grabbed the cord and went at it. Going off from the above graph about some being more evil than others, what is yet to be revealed about Ben's actions (esp. with the suspected killing of Penny) we the audience will want him dead. And I'm talking we're going to want his head on a !@#$ pike, disemboweled, drawn and quartered. We're going to want it to hurt, and we're going to want him to see all of his plans fail right before he suffers an agonizing death. (Remember, this was --- did he mean it or was it more a play to get Kate's and Sawyer's release --- Jack's plan during the surgery.) I think last night was just the start to building up a real audience rage against Ben. As for the plane, well, we see that it did crash and at least half of the O6 were sucked out by the (final?) timeflash... 'My condolences' dude said all 6 were, tho. Am I right in seeing that they crashed on the smaller island from the first part of S3? Or is it another station? Also, 'My condolences' dude doesn't quite sit right with me. He seems to be a little too involved/interested/yet incurious (he didn't even look at the maps) for all of this to be new to him... and he seems to've found the station a little too soon. But I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night so I could be wrong.

I think you're right- Desmond gets it. Stay the f out, we're al just pawns in their game. Also, I too am skeptical about the "my condolences" guy. He seems hostile, and why would he lie about taking maps if he didn't know their significance. A couple more things: I agree w/ Ramius that this episode was boring, right up until the final bit with Ben and Locke. However, they did address 2 characters I really wanted to see. I think Walt is done. Walt's dream about Locke in a suit surrounded by strangers confirms that he has precognitive powers, hence why the Others were so intrigued by him. Also, Locke decided to not include him in the plan, hence his not being involved in the island return. I think he's effectively done- I was hoping to see him take a more prominent role, but it seems he forgot how to act when he left the island, so I won't be missing him. They also addressed Abbadon, who I also thought would be a more prominent character in the future. His working for Widmore does explain his doings on Lost, so it's an acceptable end to his character, bt his remark to Locke last season that next time they saw each other, Locke would "owe him one" led me to believe he was way more significant than he was. Also, in Revelations, Abbadon is the name of the leader of the locust creatures that torment those left on Earth, and the Bible says it is Hebrew for "destruction," leading me to believe he would be a mysterious Christian-type character. But, they addressed those characters nonetheless, so I can't complain if I don't like their role. Prediction- the return of Claire next week.

He seems hostile, and why would he lie about taking maps if he didn't know their significance. Well, Desmond may 'get it' but with the island and 'the universe course corrects' he and they are essentially powerless to stop from being pawns. What we're seeing here this season is the players gathering all the pieces so they can play. At this point, it doesn't matter to the players if the ones they're collecting are not their pieces --- they just need to get them to the island. (For a better explanation, two players playing chess, setting up the board, the white player could arrange whatever of the black player's pieces he randomly picks up, to ready the board and get the game going. But. Once real play starts, you only use your own color.) He more lied about the sawed-off shotgun from under the desk. The woman Alicia(?) (who... looked like Ana-Lucia, has a similar name, and also appears to be a law enforcement officer, as she was escorting Sayid) saw something bulky go in the bag, not paper. And he showed her the flashlight. I've also been wondering what the ratings for the show have been for last week and this week, going head-to-head with American Idol. I remember seeing that the season premiere had a pretty healthy Neilsen (especially compared to some stretches in the past couple of years).

I remember seeing that the season premiere had a pretty healthy Neilsen (especially compared to some stretches in the past couple of years). Some not so good news... but it's not dreadfully bad news, considering the powerhouse that is AI. (I just don't get the appeal or the point of Idol, tho. The entire concept is retarded, nevermind the people. I've never watched it. Not a minute. And I never will. What I do know is gleaned from talking heads and the moments where I can't get to the remote fast enough to avoid a blurb on entertainment news crap shows.) Overnights for 18 Feb. Overnights for last night. Why LOST’s Nielsen ratings struggles won’t matter much to fans Especially the bit at the end about the DVD sales. This is something I have noticed among some LOST fans --- they'll wait for the DVDs and watch it all at once.
The Jokeman Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 One point on the proposed war that Widmore brought up. I'm harken back to a post I made last season. I can't explain it but when I watched the scene between Widmore and Ben speaking I had an odd God speaking to the Devil moment. Widmore playing the role of God and Ben as the Devil. I realize it probably means nothing but just something I felt. I think in part because of the comment that Ben couldn't kill him yet at the same time he it felt to me like they weren't exactly equals as in Widmore was superior or perhaps that was just Whidmore arrogance coming through, just a thought. I think the Risk is an obvious comparison that the writers wanted us to see.. By showing Ben being more and more evil gives it more and more credibility that he is in fact the devil yet the role of the island is still up in the air. Unless the island is a representation of the Earth itself and/or the island is going to spawn a new Earth.
UConn James Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I haven't gone back to look. In the Bernard & Rose episode, at that healing place... was there a well there? I seem to remember one when Bernard was bending down to talk to a little girl with crutches. But that could just be my mind playing tricks on me. BTW - what the hell ever happened to Bernard & Rose?

Good question on Rose and Bernard but one thing that might noticed we didn't cover was that Lepidus and someone else (possibly Sun?), I can't remember who, went off with the canoes and have a feeling they might have the one's to take the bullet from Juliette.
extrahammer Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 Am I the only one holding out hope that Jack forgets Kate and goes after Juliet, once they're re-united of course?

Where would they have gotten a gun? The shot on the Sawyer's paddle was a shotgun pattern. Which suggests 'My condolences' dude. When exactly that happened, we don't know. Also, I think that group was in the zodiac from the freighter that was transported thru the time flashes. Correct me if I'm wrong. Am I the only one holding out hope that Jack forgets Kate and goes after Juliet, once they're re-united of course? Ehhh.... I'm waiting for what Sawyer's reaction is going to be when he learns that Jack and Kate were engaged and doing the hibbity-jibbity in the alternate time-string. As well as what it was that he asked Kate to do for him (I assume it has to do with Sawyer's daughter, Clementine Philips, in Phoenix).
extrahammer Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Tonight's episode is called "LeFleur". I think Sawyer is supposed to find out about Kate and Jack. I'm hoping Jack drops Kate and gets with Juliet.
UConn James Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Tonight's episode is called "LeFleur". I think Sawyer is supposed to find out about Kate and Jack. I'm hoping Jack drops Kate and gets with Juliet. A-yep. We'll see if it sticks. So we find out that it looks like the Ajira plane crashed in 2007 on the smaller Hydra island, while at least some of the O6 (Kate, Jack, Sun) were transported to 1974 in a time flash right before the crash. Daniel was muttering at the start of the ep that he wouldn't tell, no matter what, he won't tell...? That he won't tell Charlotte not to come back. Which is why she disappears in the last flash; b/c when Daniel changes things, "whatever happens" didn't happen. But. Where did she go is the question. Is it her who was at Oxford, or in the bed in England? I also caught in the repeat that Locke's Helen died in 2006 of a "brain aneurysm." Abaddon was a little cryptic; with more of the 'what happens happens' stuff. That's gotta have something to do with the island. But I'm starting to get hip to the time stuff. And if you've read "Slaughterhouse Five" it probably makes a little more sense. As the Lostaways/O6 go back in time and act, these actions have already happened, so they're going to happen. Everyone just needs to play their parts, and wait until the right time comes. E.g. Richard --- that's gotta suck knowing that something's going to take 50 years to happen but in the meantime, you just need to live it all out. I mean, Desmond's time having to relive was nothing compared to Richard. But, I guess he is a 'long-term' kinda guy. Got a flash of the statue tonight. Who built it and when the hell was that? Have we seen Amy --- Horace's wife --- before? Or am I remembering her face from a different show? Was she in the car that came upon Ben being born? I've been thinking about it today, and the more I come to it, with the "Whatever happens happened" the more I'm thinking that Jack is Jacob. Similarity in name... the "Great man" descriptions for both of them... Christian's connection with Jacob... and the dramatic impact of the 'man of science' actually becoming the man/ghost who inspires such faith; the man who wanted to get off the island so badly, to be done with it all, being the one who lingers through death to 'save' it. The other stuff is working its way into tying up the ends. I'm just going to say it will really suck if the last scene of this season is Daniel going into the Orchid's construction. They really should not be following the same pattern as last season with the initial premiere scene being the same as the final finale scene. I hope things move a little faster than that.
Mr Info Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Have we seen Amy --- Horace's wife --- before? Or am I remembering her face from a different show? Michelle (Tony's wife) from 24.
DrDawkinstein Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 hey, we got an "answer" on the 4 toed statue. we dont know who built it or why, but we know that it was not a completely human model. looks like it had something to do with the temple as well.

I thought from the back that it looked like Anubis the Egyptian deity that protects the dead on their journey to the afterlife.

Season 1, 2, and 3 premieres and finales were much better than Season 4 premiere and finale. However, Season 5's premiere was similar to 2 and 3, which are my favorites, starting off with a song and big reveal. Love that concept! Why is there not a new episode next week? I thought I read there would be no breaks this season??
