Rico Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 While looking for the Denise Richards December Playboy, I bought this at the newsstand yesterday, GREAT work TSN! TOP 50 ALL-TIME QBs 1. Johnny U 2. Joe Montana 3. Otto Graham 4. John Elway 5. Sammy Baugh 6. Loser Dan Marino 7. Brett Favre 8. Terry Bradshaw 9. Roger Staubach 10. Bart Starr 11. Fran Tarkenton 12. Troy Aikman 13. Steve Young 14. Sid Luckman 15. Dan Fouts 16. Bobby Layne 17. Norm Van Brocklin. 18. Sonny Jurgensen 19. Jim Kelly 20. Y.A. Tittle 21. Len Dawson 22. Bob Griese 23. Joe Namath 24. Warren Moon 25. Peyton Manning 26. George Blanda 27. Phil Simms 28. Bob Waterfield 29. Ace Parker 30. Ken Stabler 31. Joe Theismann 32. Randall Cunningham 33. Daryle Lamonica 34. Boomer Esiason 35. Ken Anderson 36. Arnie Herber 37. John Hadl 38. Jim Plunkett 39. John Brodie 40. Jim Hart 41. Charlie Connerly 42. Paddy Driscoll 43. Roman Gabriel 44. Dutch Clark 45. Steve McNair 46. Kurt Warner 47. Jack Kemp 48. Tom Brady 49. Archie Manning 50. Benny Friedman Also, they list the top 5 QBs in history for each team, here's the Bills: 1. Jimbo 2. Fergy 3. Kemp 4. Dennis Shaw 5. Frank Reich Sorry, no Drew in the top 50 or top 5 Bills QBs, but he did place 2nd in the Pats all-time QBs to Brady. So much for closing in on 10th all-time passing yards. Anyways, BIG thumbs up, a great read, highly recommended, check it out.
Campy Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 The question that begs to be asked is: If Fergy is ahead of Kemp on the Bills' all-time QB list, how can Kemp be ahead of Fergy on the league's all-time list? Fun to look at though, thanks for posting it. BTW, I didn't know that was Marino's real first name!

I think the top 50 was selected by a panel, while the top 5 for each team was only 1 writer's opinion. That probably also explains why Drew didn't make the Bills top 5 instead of Shaw. And much to my chagrin, I must admit that they don't call him Loser Dan in the magazine.
MDH Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Two things jump out at me here: 1) Steve Young is way too low on that list. I think an arguement can be made that he's one of the top 3 QBs of all time. In his prime I've never seen a better QB in my lifetime. 2) How pathetic has the QB position been for the Bills when a career backup makes the top 5 QBs of all time?
Cutting Drew With Dignity Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Dennis Shaw? Denis Lemieux would have thrown less picks.
Greybeard Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Dennis Shaw? Denis Lemieux would have thrown less picks. 92342 Somehow bringing up Dennis Shaw during duck season seems appropriate.
daquixers Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Huh? I dont think so. Steve Young had the best Wide Reciever of all time to throw too ... Joe Montana also - thats why I think both of them are always overrated. Jim should be around 11-14 ... not 19

Maybe 'cuz he was so awesome when he was w/ SD? Or Fergy pulled down his grade playing for Detroit &/or whereever else he played post-Bills. I'd also like to add w/ respect to NE, what about Grogan? I might be inclined to put him above both Brady & DB.

Rico Posted October 30, 2004 Author Posted October 30, 2004 Filled in the rest of the list. Also, Grogan was #3 in Pats history, Babe Parilli #4, & Tony Eason #5.

Watched them both and Shaw had 1 good year (rookie year) and that was it. I think Frank was the best 2nd string QB of his time and would have been the starter on most teams. Without him there is no 4 superbowls and I think he outplayed Kelly in the 1992 season.
Thurman's Helmet Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 Peyton Manning at #25 totally invalidates this list for any knowledgable football fan. If this were Top 50 FANTASY football QBs then okay but what a bunch of crap.
Guest Guest Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 Warren Moon should be top 5. Top of the list if you include his CFL days.
Fake-Fat Sunny Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 Did they compile a list of SB winning QBs that didn't make the list?Newbies not there is understandable, though Kurt Warner being there and Tom Brady not rauses some interesting questions. Off hand, Trent Dilfer ain't there (I'd agree), Jim McMahon ain't there (also understandable but he did QB the best team of all time. Doug Williams ain't there and I'd have to look up his career stats to find a likely explanation as to his absence.
bartshan-83 Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 While looking for the Denise Richards December Playboy, 92114 say what? As for the list, it always pains me to see Jimbo lower than Elway. I feel like Elway was way on his way to being known as the worst of the big 3 83 QBs. He was a whiner and he never got it done in the big game. Then Terrell Davis came along and saved his @ss. I think John was great, but not top 5 great.
