I think Reed is a long shot this year, but deserves induction eventually. I don't know about Tasker getting dissed. No one is guffawing about his reasons to not sign the CBA now... Plus, he isn't getting any younger and I think voters will try to get him in pre-posthumous... He deserves that at least. And thirdly, I think he might get some shirttail votes w/ Bruce... I think Andre Reed is a tough sell... I really hope he eventually makes it. But, he was a great WR in the times of Hall of Fame WRs like Rice, Monk, and Lofton... If not for Jerry Rice, Andre Reed would be a shoe in imho. His accomplishments stand up to any WR in the hall. It wasn't all the "system", though truthfully the system did work to his favor. With apologies to #89, Steve Tasker will only ever sniff a nomination. Incorrect as they are, the HOF voters will never elect a pure Special Teamer outside of Kickers and Punters... All this waxing nostalgic reminded me... For Christmas my wife bought me the Comeback game on DVD... I watched it for the first time since live and it brought back a flood of memories... The look on Warren Moon's face after the game tells the whole story, complete and utter disbelief. Watching Bruce Smith constantly getting double teamed and still getting pressure was just a joy to behold... But, it reminds me too of another hero who won't ever see the Hall and to me is deserving of at least some acknowledgement, Phil Hansen was able to take advantage of Bruce's attention drawing. That, and he was all over the field. Bruce made everyone around him a better defender. IMHO... the way Bruce demolished the Dolphins in his career had to have an impact on why Marino never won a SB... Bruce Smith was the Michael Jordan to Patrick Ewing with respect to Marino. It's for consistently making the wrong move or pushing people out the door. It seems like everytime RW finds a competent coach or GM, he finds way to alienate them to the point they want to leave. Or he just fires them, so they move to another organization and find success. Ralph's teams are 283-315-2 since the AFL/NFL merger. It's nice that he kept the AFL alive, but an owner should demonstrate a contribution to the game over their entire time in the position. Aside from 88-93, Buffalo has done very little. I know he has his faults... but, he isn't a complete douche, I'm sure he could have taken many opportunities to move this franchise elsewhere, but he chose to stick it out in a town that loves his property, even when the rest of the community was falling apart. If not for Ralph Wilson, the fledgling AFL might have crumbled. The NFL certainly wouldn't be what it is today w/o those foolish AFL owners who pushed the envelope. Imagine a world w/ no Superbowl. Imagine a world with no Buffalo Bills. Then tell me Ralph Wilson doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame for his contributions to Pro Football. He also spoke avidly for the small market teams. Nobody else did. Before anybody jumps on me about the small market team, the population in Buffalo and surrounding areas does not compare to NYC or LA or Chicago or Dallas or .... First, let me say that RW is not some evil man hell-bent on world domination, as some may think. Wilson did several things in the 60s to keep the AFL alive and for that, he should (and has) be(en) commended. This undoubtedly made the AFL survive some tough times. However, I have not seen anything in the past 25 years to demonstrate he is worthy of HOF induction. Being a HOF'er as an owner means lifetime contributions, and aside from about an 8 year period in the 60s and the Polian years, his contributions have been sparse. It should be questioned why he jettisoned or pushed away so many talented GM's and HC's, including Lou Saban (twice), Chuck Knox, Bill Polian, John Butler, and AJ Smith. Moreover, his teams are only 283-315-2 since the merger in 1970. Besides the six year period from 1988-1993, Wilson's teams have only 7 playoff appearances (74, 80, 81, 95, 96, 98, and 99) in the other 33 years since the merger. With the Polian influence, it amounts to 13 post-season berths in 39 seasons. Wilson's contributions are limited to only a few years, and success of the franchise should be one item an owner should demonstrate beyond question. I don't believe he's sufficiently done that.
