BenchBledsoe Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 I for one loved the Willis pick. He was a certain #3 overall pick to Houston until his knee went bye-bye. The other pick likely at that point, some will remember, was William Joseph (DT out of Miami, Fla. that is currently struggling for the Giants.) And what about Peerless' horrendous numbers in Atlanta? I thought everone said last year it was because Vick was hurt? What's the excuse now? Peerless is not a top receiver in this league. He has had one good year out of 5 or 6. And now, Willis appears to be the real deal. He is consistently driving for the extra yard. And, Like Edgerrin James, his original burst will come back in time. He has top 3 Heisman candidate talent. Can you imagine how really great this trade will look when Travis is long gone? Peerless Price is simply going to be the answer to a trivia question. . .

But the first thing I thought of when you brought up the two of them in one post was the separate images of them in Bills uniforms quitting on a play. Weird, huh?
Tux of Borg Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 At the time I thought TD tenure here at Buffalo would be based on the McGahee pick. Right now he's starting to look like a genius for it. Things have changed a bit and I think his future here will now be based on the Losman pick.

But, does anyone have preseason stats for JP? We seemed to have a high percentage of scoring drives with him in there. I especially remember watching the Denver game where he was perfect (8 for 8?) before missing a pass. I am usually not optimistic by nature, but the kid gives me the warm fuzzies! Anyone have cumulative preseason stats, including drives he led vs. those ending in scores?

I feel strongly that it's still a little premature to call TD a genius or this a good trade. When Travis is long gone and Willis plays great (for 16 nfl games) or even as good as Henry has in the past couple years, then I'll agree with the trade. But for now it still remains to be seen. Don't get me wrong I'm a Willis fan 100% I just feel it's early. However if JP is half of what everyone is hyping him up to be then TD is a genius in my book. With in the next 2 to 3 years the Bills are going to be something to watch for years to come. We just have to say bye bye to Drew and fix the oline asap (hopefully this off season).

Yeah, I know, not many people agreed with him there either.

swede316 Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 We would never had re-signed Peerless........He wanted alot of money..No way we coulda afforded him......As evidenced by his Atlanta performane..TD made a great trade...Now if JP turns out to be the next Jim Kelly or atleast Doug Flutie...He'll have saved his job.

JP didnt exactly have an all star team behind him. 9/11 78 yards, 3 for 3 for scoring drives and he averaged over 10 yards a carry. Very solid!
Fezmid Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Saw a highlight from the Falcons/Chiefs game. Pefect pass to Price, bounce dout of his hands and into the defensive back's hands. Reminded me of our game against the Ravens. Even if WM sucks, it was a good trade -- WM is much cheaper than PP was. CW
BenchBledsoe Posted October 30, 2004 Author Posted October 30, 2004 I'm not saying JP isn't going to have some growing pains, obviously he is. But, could it really be any worse than what we've been subjected to thus far? Here's a "growing pain" analogy: 1) JP will be like a teenage boy who has hit a growth spurt and his legs hurt. 2) Drew is like a grown man. . . Dr. Bruce Banner. . . who is turning into The Hulk. Which hurts more?

If TD did not take him, I think another team would have before the 2nd round. His upside potential is tremendous, and we still got the player we wanted in round 2.
Indy Dave Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Getting a #1 draft pick for Peerless was a great move by TD, the best he's made as our GM in my opinion. We were about to lose PP to free agency, so to turn that into a first-round pick was a great move. But I think it's safe to say that the jury is still out on whether or not Willis was the right choice. It was a gamble, for sure, but I don't think that's going to be the defining moment to TD's tenure in Buffalo. I think that's going to be the trade that landed us JP.
