/dev/null
Davey Lopes has a porn stache Jeff Reardon looks like a lumberjack (and that's OK) Dan Quisenberry looks like a member of a barbershop quartet What is John Grubb drinking? And last but not least Rollie Fingers. If you think the Bills current uniform is bad, it could be worse. Like the 1983 Milwaukee Brewers

ExiledInIllinois
steve howe died? So did "The Quiz"... Hope he had that one signed prior to the late 1990's (1998).
/dev/null
What about the White Sox Jersey's? I dunno what the 83 White Sox Jersey's look like. Sometimes my son and I will drag out my old Topps sets and look at them. Like Curse said... "when collecting cards was fun." It was fun back in the day. I had a lot of that set 1983 Fleer set. I was pretty into the baseball cards from about 1983 through 1987, the peak of the boom. I invested much of my allowance in Griffey Jr., Mattingly, Canseco and Gregg Jefferies rookie cards. Didn't work out so well, but it was fun. I also used tos end cards through the mail to get autographed. My true prize was a Don Mattingly Columbus Clippers card that he signed and sent back. I had it framed in my room.

Also, about a 100 NHL players, and another 50 or so NBA guys (scored Bob McAdoo a few years back!). You want to hear something funny? I set out, in 1994 to get an autographed card, from every player who had a card, and was a member of one of the Bills Super Bowl teams. It was 37 players in all, as well as Marv Levy and any coaching staff member who had a card...about 45 guys in all...you know who the only guy who never responded was? Just guess? Mark "friggin" Kelso!!! Most everyone (including Jimbo, Reed and Thurman) responded within a few weeks...it took Bruce almost a year...but Mark Kelso, after 4 different attempts, never responded. I had to buy one off of Ebay, years later, just to complete the collection...Kelso is my all-time least favorite Bills!

Do you have the set matted and framed somewhere or at least all of them on display in some fashion? I can totally see Bruce taking a long time and back in the day it wouldn't have surprised me if it took Thurman a while also, but Kelso?!?! C'mon!! Buftex
Wow, cool idea. Pretty awful that Kelso never responded. What did you do with the set? Oh, I still have them in a huge card binder, along with many other Bills players. I got some of them at training camps, but most through the mail. It really is a fun thing to do...not so much sending the things off, but getting them back in the mail, along with all your bills and other junk mail. The longest any Bill ever took to respond was Bryce Paup. IIRC, it was almost three years after I sent him a card...I got it after he left the Bills and went to Jacksonville. I figured he was just clearing out his junk from Buffalo, and responded to old fan mail...since, I have concentrated on getting complete team sets signed by teams (got nine of last years champion Celtics, thogh I pretty sure the Garnett is a stamp!), 42 Bills Topps Total cards signed by the 2005 squad...one of the problems though, is the cards today are made with much slicker, and expensive materials than the ones we grew up with, prior to the 1990's...so it is somtimes hard to get nice signatures, as the glossy coatings don't hold all ink. Some of the players are savy to the different types of pens you can use on these cards, but some (normally the more minor guys who don't get asked for a lot of autographs) just sign with whatever pen is handy, and they don't always look great... Gotta say, Jim Kelly, Joe Ferguson and Andre Reed, were all very generous signers...when you send them the cards, you normally send one for them to sign, and one for them to keep. Most guys will send both back, maybe one signed, the other not, or both signed. But these three guys sent lots of other cool stuff... Jimbo sent about 4 cards, along with a signed 5x7 and some Jim Kelly fan club information. I have seen Kellys' signature loads of times, and a lot of them are stamped (particualarly in his heyday), but these were all actually hand signed...all had variations, and a little smudging...Reed sent a whole bunch of signed cards back, and Fergy was the coolest...this was in the early 1990's....I wrote to him at the resteraunt he owned in Louisiana (Log Cabin Smoke House), along with his rookie card, and a letter, just explaining to him that growing up, he was my favorite player...he sent me back a signed jersey (my brother was spotted on television, weiring at the Bills/Cowboys Super Bowl in Atlanta), along with about 14 different signed cards (all 12 of his official Topps liscenced cards from his playing days), and a rare (to me) QB Legends card I had never seen, and a collegiat card from his days at Arkansas... Gotta admitt, I don't do as much of this as I used to, but it is a cheap thrill...I recommend it to anyone...it is cheap and fun if you are a big sports nut, like myself. Don't send anything too valuable, you may not get it back, but for the most part you will...the worst that can happen is you don't get your card back...big star players like, say Peyton Manning today, or Brett Favre will normally send your stuff back stamped, or maybe a team issued photo, stamped, and a note explaing that the "due to the large volume of requests Mr Manning receives, he cannot meet every request, but be sure to know that he appreciates your support"...or something like that...even those are fun to collect.... What really started me collecting the autographed cards was my experiences as a kid, getting Bills players to sign, after games in the parking lot at Rich. At first, I only wanted Bills players. So, I would bring whatever cards I had to the game, of guys that I might see that day. Then, one week, I was waiting after a Bills/Steelrs game, I was about 13 or 14, and I was waiting for the Bills players to come out (they would often hang out around the visiting teams buses after the game, to shake hands and talk with their "enemies"), and I turned around, and Terry Bradshaw was standing there....he kind of looked down at me and smiled and said "can I sign something for you?"... I was kind of stunned (he was one of the biggest stars in the game at the time) but didn't have anything but a Bills card for him to sign, so I just kind of stammered and said something like "No, sorry, I'm a Bills fan..." He just kind of chuckled, and said something like "that's cold" messed my hair up and walked on...from that day on, I started bringing cards from other teams, just in case...
