WVUFootball29 Posted January 5, 2009 Share Posted January 5, 2009 Hey Guys, Leaving for Denver in a few minutes and going to spend the next week in about 5 different cities. Going to be in Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Telluride, and Fort Collins for sure. Anyone have any advice on places to eat or bars to visit? Any info would be much appreciated. coloradobillsfan Posted January 5, 2009 Share Posted January 5, 2009 the wynkoop in downtown denver is one of the best brewpubs in the country. try the railyard ale while you are playing pool on one of their 20+ tables. with your itinerary in only one week, you're going to be spending a lot of time driving. watch those passes going to/fro telluride. Bullpen Posted January 5, 2009 Share Posted January 5, 2009 When you're in the Colorado Springs, probably the last thing you want is WNY food again, but if you do, the best spot is Back East Bar and Grill in the Briargate area of the Springs. Owned and run by a guy from the northtowns actually. Great guy and decent food as well. Old Colorado City (which is due west of downtown Colorado Springs) is simliar to how grunt described Boulder... small pedetrian type place with lots of shops, touristy stores, kitschy places like that. Stop by a watering hole named "Meadow Muffins" for a really interestesting and fun place to eat and have a couple drinks. If you head a couple miles further west, you'll end up in Manitou Springs, which is.... well... uh... an interesting collection of lifestyles to say the least. (put it this way, it's nothing like Jamestown, but everything that the artsy-fartsy-alternative JCC crowd would LIKE Jamestown to be like. If you want to do some small stakes gambling, there's Cripple Creek, which is about 30 to 40 miles west of Colorado Springs. It's an old mining town that has been converted to a $5.00 min-max gaming town. All the casinos (except one) are in renovated saloons, hotels and turn-of-the-century gambling parlors, kind of a neat experience if nothing else. I would advise if you are going to do this to take one of the hourly shuttles that leaves Colorado Springs (link below): http://www.ramblinexpress.com/casinoShuttles.html Word to the wise: Traffic sucks in Colorado Springs if you get off I-25, so just keep that in mind. Heading west tomorrow, definitely going to check out Boulder and downtown Denver near the end of the week. WVUFootball29 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Share Posted January 10, 2009 Well, I'm sitting in the Denver airport waiting for my plane to depart. I got to see quite a bit colorado and parts of New mexico and wyoming on this trip. Here is a quick synopsis of the rest of my trip: We left Farmington and headed north to Telluride, the roads were pretty good and Lizard Head pass was clear and a beautiful sight to see. From Telluride we headed to Grand Junction then over to Glenwood Springs and Aspen and stayed the night in Glenwood. We hit up the brewery there for out 3rd in 3 nights. Great food and beer there, highly recommend it. From Glenwood, we heading across I70 into Golden then went north through Ft. Collins and all the way up to Laramie Wyoming. We hit up a brewpub there called the Library. this was a really fun bar with good house brews and some really fun people. After we left Laramie, we headed back towards Denver and spent the evening downtown at Wynkoop. This place was a good as everyone said it was. The beer was great and the "scenery" was very appealing. I found out from one of the bartenders that Pearl St. in Buffalo is owned by the same company that owns Wynkoop. All and all I had a great time in Colorado and I'm hoping with a little luck my fiance and myself can find work out here. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
