Nevertheless, I'd still take Everette Brown. Maualuga would likely be gone at #17, anyway, though I wouldn't trade down.
Solomon Grundy Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I take Jermaine Gresham ANYWHERE! We NEED him. He is going to be a stud...look at how valuable Antonio Gates is! He won that game last night with those catches at the end, ESPECIALLY the catch where he dragged 4 guys with him to the 1st down marker. The BEST thing for this team and its young QB would be a HUGE ATHLETIC weapon at TE...Gresham has ALL the tools! If I can't take him in the 1st...I do whatever I have to do to get Rey Maualuga or Taylor Mays. They both are basically already on an NFL squad, having been playing at USC for a couple years now. They BOTH are NFL ready. His hands are nowhere near the caliber of Chase Coffman's. Check the stats.

LABills08 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 His hands are nowhere near the caliber of Chase Coffman's. Check the stats. Gresham is the more talented TE. After him, probably comes Pettigrew. Just because Coffman has sick looking Youtube clips does not mean he will translate all that well to the NFL. He doesn't have the size you look for in a TE. I would love to have him, I am just saying you take the other two guys if you have the option. Quick Edit: Everyone will say that Coffman is only listed as roughly 20 pounds less than the other two guys, but I think that 245 is a generous listing after looking at the guy on film. Even so, unless you are Jeremy Shockey (250), 245 might not be enough to convince coaches to take him over the other 2 guys, regardless of who has better hands. Unless Coffman is a disgustingly good blocker, 245 is on the light side.
JStranger76 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Sad but true skycap. We always JUST miss out on that TRUE impact player.

He has Gresham listed at the top, but look at Coffman's production in college. He was even rated better than Martin Rucker last year. http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2009TE.php

I am just saying, if you have the choice, the other guys are the better players. Hell, some draft sites even have Gresham in the top 15 overall. Coffman isn't Kellen Winslow,Tony Gonzalez or Jeremy Shockey (in terms of their relative sizes compared to Coffmans'). If he can add 15-20 pounds to his frame and still maintain his speed and athleticism, I totally see your point. But, right now he is a blocking liability. I frankly don't care, I would rather have a TE that can catch a pass than a TE that can block, but if you look at how Gates and Witten block, you can see what is desired. I enjoy Walter Football, but I often doubt their accuracy.

I think Detroit is definitely going QB first. Whether it be Stafford or Bradford, I'm not exactly sure. I don't believe they're content with Culpepper, Stanton, and Orlovsky. St. Louis may take a tackle, but I don't see Monroe coming off of the board that early, maybe mid 1st. I'd say that Oher is the top OT in the draft right now. I think that St. Louis will take Rey Maualuga, the guy you don't even have drafted in the top 10 or listed for that matter. Kansas City will be going QB I believe. They'll take either Stafford or Bradford, whomever is on the board. If he's still there, I think that Seattle will take Crabtree. I think that Crabtree will be a coveted item by ALOT of teams this year and that some one will trade into the top 3 to get him. He's the best WR to come along since Randy Moss. He will be an immediate impact player. I could see Cleveland taking Curry, but he probably won't go this high in the draft unless he has an absolutely amazing combine. I think that Cleveland goes to the hometown team and takes Malcom Jenkins. I don't think that Cincinnatti goes with Moreno either. I think that they'll bring Benson back again as he started to come on during the last few games of the season. I think that Cincinnatti is going to take Taylor Mays. Landry went this high a couple of seasons ago and I see Mays as a better player than Landry. There's not really an Al Davis type of pick here. We don't now who their coach is and what he'll be trying to do with this team. That will have alot to do with who they take. I think that they'll be one of the teams trying to trade up for Crabtree to be honest. Russell, McFadden, Miller, and Crabtree would be their "four horseman". That's a pretty GOOD young group on offense. Will it happen? Maybe. If left here though, I think that Davis will take Laurinaitis. He seems the perfect fit to play the MLB spot in that city with those fans in the "Black Hole". May be too high, but when has Davis cared about anything like that. Jacksonville will get Andre Smith because they need help everywhere it seems. This is where our heart gets broken. San Fran takes Alex Mack. Some people will say, "This is too high to take a Center," but why is it? If the guy is the best player, at the second most valuable position on the line (blinside OT), then you take him. He WILL be a Pro Bowl player. San Fran will recognize that and take him. This leaves Brian Orakpo and Everett Brown falling into our hands. We need a pass rush and they WILL add that immediately. Some people will argue Everett Brown, Brian Orakpo, George Selvie, or Greg Hardy. Orakpo, this season, has 38 tackles with 15.5 TFL along with 10.5 sacks against Big 12 competition. Hardy played well despite missing some games, but has been known to not give his all on every play. Everett Brown is the only other player who could be considered here other than Orakpo IMO. Brown had 36 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 2 pass break-ups. The guy is a monster. Selvie, I can't see anyone taking this high. He's come up "missing" too often. I think we get Brown and he will be worth the investment.
stuckincincy Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I think Detroit is definitely going QB first. I would, were I calling their shots. They have obviously nothing to lose, and an ownership - if one could ever dig to the bottom - more wealthy than the other 31 combined. To them, the Lions are a small investment that turns a yearly profit; probably viewed in the same light as a pet goldfish. A topic of conversation at Monte Carlo or Zermatt, as the seasons roll around...
BillsVet Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I'm a big fan of a big, stout DL...Marks is my man. Playing him next to Stroud...ain't noone running on us...just like the Package with Big Ted and Phat Pat. Marks is a shorter 290 lb DT. He's probably a guy who plays the 3 technique in our defense. Stroud plays a little out of position for this defense as the 1 tech.
