Beerball Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Apparently he turned up the heat this week and practices included plenty of hitting. The CBS crew asked him about it and he admitted that the players didn't like it and he heard some griping. Said he thought it was needed and that the winning team didn't have to do any after practice running. His final comment was (to paraphrase) 'usually when players complain it's a good thing.' Didn't know that Cowher once broke Fisher's leg...learning all the time.
lets_go_bills Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Their conversation seemed kind of awkward.
RockPile007 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Yeah, I like it. Anything that can simulate the real deal has to be a good thing. As long as a 3rd string linebacker doesn't go after Chris Johnson's knees.
Lv-Bills Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Kinda like Tony Dungy hearing griping this year when he made the Colts practice outside the entire week in 20 degree temps the game before Cleveland. Kinda like Tony Sparano's comment yesterday that they no longer have room for guys that like to sit in the training room every week instead of getting better on the practice field with the real guys who wanna play. Meanwhile, we have lifeless Dick. It's just unbelievable really. Such is our life as a Bills fan.

BuffOrange Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I thought the most interesting part was Cowher asking the same question 2-3 times before calling him 'Mike'.

Meanwhile, we have lifeless Dick. It's just unbelievable really. Such is our life as a Bills fan. Yep. "Our guys work hard. They really work hard". How many times has Dick told us this? Problem is that Dick's definition of work doesn't really match his opponent's definition of work and it's fairly clear most Sunday afternoons. Well, if team is stuck with Dick for HC, then some players had better step up and start providing some leadership because they're not going to get it from their coach.
crazyDingo Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Tough practices seem like a good idea till your players get all cranky. You want your players to love you to death, don't you. How many of Lombardi's players loved him to death? None. See? Its a winning system that just cant work.
Tcali Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Complete opposite of the Dick Jauron approach. but the players love him"gee hes the bestest boss!"
SageAgainstTheMachine Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Complete opposite of the Dick Jauron approach. Well it's good to know that a member of TBD attends Bills practices! What are they like??
BhamBillsFan Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Well it's good to know that a member of TBD attends Bills practices! What are they like?? You don't have to attend Bills practices to know what they are like. They practice inside when it's cold and the players love him, doesn't that tell you enough about how easy his practices must be?? Do you really think that the Bills showed mental toughness this year?

Jauron woudl have had the team indoors playing flag football with a nurf and there wouldnt have been any complaining there is a reason Fisher is one of the best coaches in the league
KOKBILLS Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Do you really think that the Bills showed mental toughness this year? Ummm...No...

Well yeah, it's certainly an educated guess that bills practices are easier than most teams...but I just can't stand people who have the audacity to make bold, sweeping statements like "Complete opposite of Jauron's approach" without any sort of solid evidence. Maybe he's a taskmaster in practice, but the players still respect and like him as a man. Fact is, we don't know for sure.

You're right, we don't know, but whatever he's doing he needs to change next year, because you can't keep doing the same thing over again and expect different results. The only way we can get a feel for his practices is by the results.... and they're not what they should be.
