Look at what the TE did for the fins. Both a receiving and red zone threat. They do not even have a "name" TE. BillsObserver Posted January 2, 2009 Share Posted January 2, 2009 Say what you want about Trent Edwards, but how many times did Robert Royal drop an important pass or fumble when we were driving down the field? Relying on a consistent tight end would help Trent Edwards considerably, especially the way he utilizes his underneath guys. People have been clamoring for a defensive end, a center, and a linebacker in the draft/free agency but maybe prioritizing the need for a tight end is as important (aside from a good defensive end). You could point the finger at the offensive coordinator for not drawing up enough plays or Trent Edwards for not consistently throwing to his tight ends, but can you really fault him for not having trust in any of them? Philly franchised him after last season, but he's not durable enough to warrant a big contract. The Bills have eschewed a all-around good TE for too long now. Jermaine Gresham seems to be the type who can combine blocking and being a down field threat. 11th may be too early, but in order to maximize Edwards' talents, they need someone who can make defenses honest down the seam. L J Smith would be a mistake. Jermaine Gresham only if Chase Coffman is gone. The Bills named their infamous K-Gun offense after a TE who was a receiving threat not a blocker.
