Phlegm Alley Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 So Joe Satriani filed a lawsuit against Coldplay citing copywrite infringement and people think he has made a case for himself. Link to story Youtube link
VOR Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 There is a band called The Creaky Boards who claimed that Colplay plagiarized that song from them (http://techdirt.com/articles/20080701/0154411560.shtml). I thought for sure that they'd sue and wonder why I hadn't heard anything about it, but I guess that's because they plagiarized that song from Satch.
MarkAF43 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Yea i have heard the comparision, and there is no doubt in my mind, and as far as i am concerned i think the song sounded better with the guitar play of Joe Satriani
PromoTheRobot Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 The song from X&Y was lifted from, of all bands, . PTR
VOR Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 The song from X&Y was lifted from, of all bands, . PTR Kraftwerk gave Coldplay permission to use the sample of their song and got royalties from it.
justnzane Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Satriani looks like a vin diesel wannabe. frankly i see similarity but not enough to warrant plagiarism.
BLZFAN4LIFE Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Satriani looks like a vin diesel wannabe. frankly i see similarity but not enough to warrant plagiarism. Ditto that. Sorry Joe.
Helmet_hair Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Ditto that. Sorry Joe. Don't worry about Joe cause he'll be a few $ richer, after I heard that
Helmet_hair Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 frankly i see similarity but not enough to warrant plagiarism. What's in a name? that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet
VOR Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Satriani looks like a vin diesel wannabe. frankly i see similarity but not enough to warrant plagiarism. Well, if not here, that Creaky Boards song for sure.
DC Tom Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Satriani looks like a vin diesel wannabe. I think he started going bald, and and rather than look like an ageing '80s hair metal act just shaved off his mullet. frankly i see similarity but not enough to warrant plagiarism. It ain't what it sounds like, it's how it was created. If Coldplay can prove they came up with that melody on their own, it's an original creation and not plagirism. If Satriani can prove they were influenced by his work, it's plagirism. The songs are so similar, I suspect it's a bit of "unintentional" plagirism...someone in Coldplay heard Satriani's song at some point, the tune stuck in his head, he used it later to write the song not remembering where the melody came from ("It's just something I've had rattling around in my head.") Pretty easy to do. Satrian's perfectly in the right to file suit, too. If Coldplay didn't want to go to be sued, they should have returned his calls.
John Adams Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 It's identical; even in the same key and time. The odds of it being an independent creation border nil. Coldplay is in trouble and will settle.
WellDressed Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Why is this a big deal, it's only rock music/
