Fewell733
seriously though, sports "journalism" is basically dead. It's now sports "commentary" with loudmouths throwing mud at the wall in a 24/7 news cycle. Just compare ESPN the Magazine to Sports Illustrated. ESPN the magazine is 100% flash and isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Sports Illustrated - which actually has good pieces - can't keep up because you can't pump out a quality product as quick and cheap (and still make it feel like its up to date) as you can crap. Good articles take time to write and the public want news and judgments immediately. It's like reality television vs. good sitcoms. Sitcoms are expensive and hard to get right (but done right they have value for generations in syndication and video sales because they convey humor and ideas that are lasting), reality tv is cheap and disposable but people still watch and advertisers still buy, but there is no lasting value to it. Lori
Nope. Still a lot of quality writing out there; you just have to know where to find it. And Sullivan = Parker? Not. Even. Close. Sully's got a long way to go to be suspended from his column.
Preston Ridlehuber
Just a thought.... Has provocative reporting trumped good reporting? Whether you agree with him or not, Sullivan never makes it personal and is a true professional.

Lori
I thought Parker's comment was really funny. Marinelli didn't ... and judging from the mea culpa Parker cranked out shortly thereafter, neither did DetNews management.

R. Rich
Marinelli didn't ... and judging from the mea culpa Parker cranked out shortly thereafter, neither did DetNews management. I just heard his reply to Parker's half a**ed apology on Sirius as I was driving home. Good for you, Rod. The guy insulted your daughter, whether he intended to or not. All just to make some idiotic comment. Maybe he should be posting here. Lots of the same 'round these here parts.
BillsWatch
Jerry Sullivan is not the antichrist.Scum on bottom of feet of antichrist but not so big or important to be the antichrist. More like the biting flea that can not be killed and not ignored. You do realize that we are talking about the Jerry Sullivan that works for the Buffalo News, don't you?!? Work is debatable. Paid certainly.

Swimsuit edition may be the one exception - SI gets more than its fair share of notariety out of this issue and I would say on a certain level it is certainly provacative. I actually wonder why women don'y protest to get their own issue of the same type - the equality notion and all. However, you make good points i am not really trying to suggest otherwise. Yeah but internet porn is ruining this, too. Who wants to pay to jerk it to swimsuits when you can get the real thing for free.
