Little bit of a tangent here...

But... We should take the apporach that Mayor Daly took when the Bears threatened to leave Chicago.

His words?

"Good... Leave."

Make no concessions that compromise your ideals... Even if things have to be utterly torn down in order to rebuild.

Flame me all you want... I am all for turning this into a class struggle and let God sort it out. Bluffing? Let's see where the road leads to?

I am just the person and have the position in society to push and icite these ideals.

/rant... Christmas Eve multiple postings.

You know what they say? How you act on Christmas Eve is how you will act all year... It looks grim for you guys here! Well, at least I will be working!

Probably... They have already been getting help from the Japanese gov't for many decades nows... Maybe they will just ask for MORE of an unfair competitive advantage from their gov't? Odds are they will hide it from the press and let the Americans take the heat as usual...Just like they do with their crappy sludge prone engines.

Maybe it is meant to be... America's bad business model for their domestic automobile industry will surely cause that industry to fail exposing the warts for the other car companies which supposedly have "superior" products...:thumbsup:

<_<

Please explain what you mean by this "US auto industry "bad business model.

:thumbsup: Funny how these myths like what you say get started... Last time I looked, Japan is a SOCIALIST counrty... Well, more surely more socialized than us!

Dude... They a have been getting gov't help since the get-go... They are subsidized by their gov't.

God I hope the yen goes 1-1 with the dollar even if it is for the sure fact of seeing the looks on the faces of the dimwits that propagate these myths.

Being a socialist country I;m sure the corporate tax rate is much higher there as well. Operating in a socialist country is not good for a business. Governments look at businesses as a cash cow. I know, being from Canada and our family owning a truck repair business. Government does nothing to help you. They only want to take. They have to to feed all their programs.

There's little difference between the corporate tax rates in Japan and the United States.

Currently, the average combined federal and state corporate tax rate in the U.S. is 39.3 percent, second among OECD countries to Japan's combined rate of 39.5 percent.1

Sorry Cincy... I was being sarcastic. Some people here would have you believe that... I don't really believe that. If some want to call paying your workers and their family a nice economic way of life bad because others in the world are getting paid lower... So be it.

It is "bad" only because other countries have much lower standards...

I believe helping your neighbor... That means paying others what we make and rise from there.

Again, just being sarcastic... I figure I would pander to the pukes of the world. But, this being the Christmas season... I feel like George Bailey after just shaking Mr. Potters' hand... I think I need to wash it!

Do they get healthcare in Canada? Japan? Do Wal-Marts in TN send their employees to collect state/federal aid? Seems the other countries and the corporates from within are feeding off the American taxpayer/worker... The American gov't is just playing along.

Toyota doesn't need help from the government? Who pays for the health care of Toyota's Japanese employees? The Japanese government. Who's been artificially devaluing their currency to protect their automobile imports? The Japanese government. Who's been rebating value added taxes on their exports to American while imposing the same taxes on imports from America? The Japanese government. Who uses a variety of non-tariff barriers to protect their auto industry? The Japanese government. The way some people talk you'd think that Japanese car makers are existing in some sort of Milton Friedman wet dream where only the free market's invisible hand has pushed them past their American competitors.

You are too wise to post on this board.

I was friends with lady who was one of representatives on the trade board to deal with inequity of market availability between US and Japan. Compared to US Japan is basically a socialist country where market shares inside Japan are divided up by government and in order for US products produced in Japan to get in someone basically has to give up a portion of their market share. The entire economy is designed to cooperate inside but compete outside. Great for Japan but not free trade by any means.

There is difference between well managed and not well managed governments of all types. Japan's in general is well managed and manages to mitigate the problems of socialist societies which is workers not willing to work hard since there is very little gain because it is not a Christian society and its combination of Buddhism and Shintoism strongly encourages hard work and working together rather than the "to winner gets the spoiled" attitude in US.

Good post!

You are totally right. The US seems to operate in the exact opposite fashion (as highlighted in blue).

Yet, we are suppose to sit here and take... Take the "free trade" and economic high ground while our workers and their families get slayed... Now mix in the myths about lazy workers, unions, and crappy products, etc... Quite a system we got going.

Americans are supposed to just suck it up... Ya, right.

The one good thing is the media now... A media that is much more developed than what we had during the 1930's.

Toyota to lose 1.7 billion

Nagota Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. projected its first ever operating loss since it began such reports, saying Monday that its nine-year stretch of global vehicle sales growth has stalled.

...

"Toyota, which makes the Prius gas-electric hybrid and Camry sedan, expects 50 billion yen ($555 million) in net profit, down from 1.7 trillion yen earned the previous year." Source

Not making enough money or not making any money? I love how businesses do math. Wish I only made $555 million last year.

Well, become a CEO and plunder the company like the rest of them.

The chorus of "the US is the only advanced country not to provide healthcare" not withstanding, it is the employees who pay for their healthcare.

Japan only requires that everybody purchase some health insurance. Usually it is through their employer. For unemployed, students, and the retired, the government offers a plan which they they must buy.

(Personally, I think this is the right approach for the US.)

What is the lastest new out of Tokyo:

Toyota Stopping Production

TOKYO – Toyota is suspending production at all 12 of its Japan plants for 11 days over February and March, a stoppage of unprecedented scale for the nation's top automaker as it grapples with shrinking global demand.

The last time Toyota Motor Corp. halted production at all its Japan plants was in August 1993, when demand plunged because of a rising yen, and that was for only one day, according to the company.

The yen is rising... The Jap auto industry is not getting their "bailout"... Stop production! When the yen "recovers" and in essence they get their "bailout", they can flood with more imports.

I don't know why we as Americans continually have to play with one hand tied behind our backs. They flood our country with cheap cars... Can we flood their country with cheap grain (rice), after all our grain is superior to theirs. Heck, we could even open some grain processing plants right on Japanese soil! :P:wallbash: What do you think will happen in SOCIALIST JAPAN?

When the dollar is strong we get upset because we get flooded with cheap imports. When the dollar is weak we get upset because the price of imports like gas go through the roof and we can no longer afford to travel abroad.

It's like howling against the rising and setting of the sun every day.

It's all relative. The weak dollar has been fantastic for those of us in the export business. Maybe if more people started thinking about making things that people around the world wanted to buy things we wouldn't be in such dire straits.

No. Well at least me not me. Didn't see me howling with the price of gas at 6 bucks... You only see me howling against cheap imports. Raise up al the prices and tighten credit... Then people will actually have to make a choice between one thing or another or not buy anything at all and save the dough. Now saving, not spending on worthless consumer crap is what I can dig! Gas, so be it... You have to get to work.

And who the eff travles abroad? :w00t::w00t: Like that is a necessity? :w00t::w00t:

So... Weak dollar anyday! :lol::thumbsup:

I hope the yen becomes uber strong. Why the heck does anybody need to buy new cars every 2-3 years? Any car after 1990 can easily last somebody 10-20 years.

Americans are the main buyers of the consumer junk out there. Maybe we can all stop buy the crap out of compulsion to alwys have the latest thing?

Anyway, what does the world need? Surely if the dude overseas bought a TV 10 years ago and it is still chugging along, why buy a new one? Durable goods last along time now. They break, repair them!
