QB - we need a veteran backup to help mentor trent and be there if there is an injury b/c i dont want handman to be my #2

RB - good here

FB - Macantyre isn't cutting it

WR - Not the best in the league but i think were good if hardy and johnson can contribute next year

TE - We need a receving tight end tht can make plays... we are probably bottom 5 in the league in TE production

OLine - Everything is good except for center... preston and fowler suck

DLine - we need an atheltic fast pass rushing defensive end... whether we obtain one from the draft or FAs, we need one bad

LB - with crowell not coming back and ellison being a ghost out there, we need a OLB tht can play with poz and mitchel

CB - when greer and youboty come back next year, and leodis having a year under his belt, we will be pretty good

S - whitner is good but we need someone to be a ball hawk and simpson just looks lost out there... i liked him as a rookie but he just seems to keep getting worse... hopefully he will return to his former self next year or maybe Wilson or Scott will start

ST - great except for Lindell.... his stats are good but since MNF and tht 49ers game, he hasn't been the same

Coaching - I am not in love with Dick but i dont think we could get anything better thts out there right now

So in conclusion we need some more pieces to the puzzle in this order

1)DE

That's a good list man. I like everything you have there and think that's pretty much what the Bills are lacking at this point. My only contention would be that I think DE and OLB are the top two priorities, with vet QB a close third. The Center position needs to be upgraded, but I think they could get away with a year of getting some one to compete with a re-signed Duke Preston for the starting job. Preston hasn't been great, but he has made plays at times (I will admit here that he is absolutely the worst of the starting five at this time), is pretty big for a center, and may still get better. He's made his share of bonehead plays over the years, but it would be tough to find a center that big in the offseason with any more proven skill. I wouldn't mind an obvious upgrade from what we have (and would expect it to happen eventually), but I think there are higher priorities. In a sense I would say the same thing about the TE position. We have two guys - Schouman and Fine - who look decent and possess at least some of the skills we look for in the position - blocking and dump-off. What I would like to see would be a big target type with some speed. Even if they took some one who was a little raw, they would have the opportunity to use him sparingly to create match up problems for the opposing defense (assuming we have a coach who can put that together).

Essentially this team needs to get dominant on defense. We play in a tough division with a lot of consistent offenses and in cold weather most of the time. If the defense can become a top 5 unit in the league (which they are probably a pass rush and a few takeaways away from), the Bills will be able to win consistently. This year, we beat up on some bad teams and played with a few good ones. We also got beat up by some mediocre and good teams. If we could have stopped the Jets or Miami in the first two games better - or gotten more turnovers - we would have won. If the offense can achieve some level of consistency running the ball (which is probably dependent on whether they can get Peters into minicamp), they can help out the defense by keeping them off the field and put the special teams on display, which the Bills excel at. Imagine having the best punt returner/special teams in the league and a defense that forced three and outs with more consistency.

This approach would cater to the strengths of the team while not really having to change all that much personnel-wise. One of either Denney of Kelsey hits the road (unless Ellis is completely worthless) along with McCargo, we get a rotational DT and the pass-rushing specialist to go with a LB and that's that. The offense will get better on it's own with development. If anything they would get a center, but I doubt it will be more than a prospect or competition-type player.

Well put. I actually am in favor of getting an inside linebacker and move Poz to the outside. That way, I think we'd certainly upgrade at the linebacker spot. DE could very well be a top draft choice next season.

I like your list, although I would bump Center ahead of Tight End as I think D. Fine has some potential. Now the QB is one of debate, I am just not as optimistic as I once was on Trent due to his fragile body and psyche. If we could trade for McNabb, this team would be vastly improved. Although, with the Iggles making a playoff run, he may become less and less available next year.

I think DE, is a priority to replace Kelsay and Denney on the end (keep Kelsay as he plays hard and wouldnt be a bad back up, but dump Denney).

Center and LB are both a pressing need...could go either way with which is more important.

Tight End is something of an unknown really as we stubbornly stuck with Royal so long. I hope Fine gets more opportunity these last two games to show us he can be our guy next year so that will be one less area we need to improve. If not, I am hoping we go after a Coffman in the draft.

Other then a non exsistent Pass Rush, I have no problem with the roster we have right now.

We should be at least 9-5 if not for Dick Jauron and the pathetic coaching staff.

Thats the million dollar question.......with a better DL, we should see better play from the LB's & CB's.....they are only as good as the guys in front of them.

maybe if we drafted a hybrid LB/DE player like a terrell suggs, tht could solve the pass rushing AND LB problem... kill 2 birds with one stone...

Any thoughts?

those guys are great but they excellin 3-4 defensive schemes and we run a 4-3. the non traditional linebackers don'y work as well.

I think The Bills need a playmaker on Defense that can rush the passer. DE or OLB.

That would be my first thing because that would make a not so bad secondary even better

Second we still need a name receiver such as a T.J. Houshmandzadeh or Marques Colston ( both would be free agents) to take the pressure off of Lee Evans. You need at least 3 receivers to balance out Marshawn and Jackson in the Offense.

Hardy may not be ready for full duty in training camp so unless the Bills like were Steve Johnson and Felton Huggins are in their developments they may need to get a vet WR in the offseason.

Thrid they need to get a better center in the draft. I dont like the talk of getting Matt Birk , he has to be getting on the down slope in his career after 10 years in the league.

They have to go DE or OLB then the best center in the first 2 rounds of the draft.

The fullback isn't a big need, remember the bills just use him as lineman in the backfield. plus they say he does well on special teams. big mac does a fine job lead blocking.

If the Bills were to use the fulback as an offensive weapon and occasionally put the Ball in his hands then I feel they need to upgrade, however-if that is not in there plans then we have mor epressing needs all over the place.

Otherwise--I really like your list.

Number one priority as everyone says is great pass rushing end, seond is a dominant center, third is a OLB, then it's a tightend. The team already has two young tight ends. Until you secure the line of scrimage, a tight end is worthless.

i agree completely, we need to draft a DE #1, i'd say a C in rd 2, and as far as a QB and TE i'd prefer to get a free agent. The QB i prefer is Jon Kittna, good enough to win games, bad enough not to threaten trent's starting status unless he really sucks. As far as TE, no real good FAs, but how about trading for a guy like Heath Miller; he's due to ebe a free agent in 2 years and they are grooming Spaeth to be the starter. I'd say we could get him for a #3 this year asnd maybe a #4 next year.

don't underestimate Josh Reed; all trent's problems started once he got hurt, he comes back against KC, its good old trent, until he gets hurt the next week. I'd be happy with evans, reed, johnson, and of course, a new TE.

Mentoring Edwards isn't the problem. A veteran to come in as a #2 will only prove to divide the team when TE sucks ass again and is afraid to throw the ball downfield. A vet QB is need to come in and lead this team, plain and simple.

RB - good here

FB - Macantyre isn't cutting it

WR - Not the best in the league but i think were good if hardy and johnson can contribute next year

Evans is not a #1 WR. A true #1 is needed to come in and open things up through the air.

TE - We need a receving tight end tht can make plays... we are probably bottom 5 in the league in TE production.

See the need for a top of the line QB that can read the entire field.

OLine - Everything is good except for center... preston and fowler suck

The line could use a left tackle soon because the bridge has been burned with Peters and he won't last beyond the end of his contract, if that long.

DLine - we need an atheltic fast pass rushing defensive end... whether we obtain one from the draft or FAs, we need one bad

Not much needs to be said here, the DE position needs an upgrade no matter if Schobel can return from his stubbed toe or not. 2 top of the line DE's are needed with at least 1 DT for rotational purposes.

LB - with crowell not coming back and ellison being a ghost out there, we need a OLB tht can play with poz and mitchel

Definitely a need of an Upgrade and Depth across the board. Mitchell is pretty good and Poz is just ok, lets see how they perform with a good DL in front of them.

CB - when greer and youboty come back next year, and leodis having a year under his belt, we will be pretty good

If Greer walks, there will be a need for depth but otherwise, by far not the weakest unit on defense.

S - whitner is good but we need someone to be a ball hawk and simpson just looks lost out there... i liked him as a rookie but he just seems to keep getting worse... hopefully he will return to his former self next year or maybe Wilson or Scott will start

Whitner is probably better suited for FS and a Stud a SS and depth overall at both positions is needed.

ST - great except for Lindell.... his stats are good but since MNF and tht 49ers game, he hasn't been the same

It never hurts to always bring in a kicker for a look see.

Coaching - I am not in love with Dick but i dont think we could get anything better thts out there right now

This is needed most along with a Front Office and QB. The current set up isn't going to take this team anywhere beyond the .500 mark. This team is lacking leadership from the top down, plain and simple. It shows on the field and off. The team is unprepared beyond belief. Proof is watching just about every other team in the league on Sunday and you will see that the Bills, even though playing hard, are unprepared to Win on a weekly basis.

So in conclusion we need some more pieces to the puzzle in this order

1)DE

2)TE

3)C

4)OLB

5)QB (Veteran)

6)FB

Conclusion

1)Front Office/Head Coach

2)QB

3)DE/DL

4)WR - #1

5)LB

6)SS
