Bills looking to trade Peters

1. Jason Peters is the Bills most talented player at a position that is either 2nd or 3rd most important position.

That being said I watched Bell play in the Preseason and he has some very nice qualities- but you would need to get a lot in return to even think about it- say you made a deal with San Fran - at the least you'd want a 1st round, 3rd round, and Vernon Davis, this year and a 2nd and 5th next year.

They re/sign mediocre guys for above market value money (Kelsey, Josh Reed, Walker, Price, Dockery, etc...) and then haggle with their top end guys (Peters, Pat Williams, Winfield, Moulds).

 

Its no wonder this team continues to stink.

 

Left tackle is a franchise position. Yes, he has plenty of leverage this year...but guess what? The Bills chose to push negotiations out another year, and he happended to get to the pro bowl again....They got another cheap year out of him, but HE has more leverage due to his performance. They should have locked him up last year.

 

Chances the Bills won't pay him the big money...they will sign some more low quality offensive lineman, and feed us the kool aid. That fits their MO, and helps explain why they haven't been to the playoffs on 9 years.

There is a very distinct difference in retaining players and grossly over paying players to stay. We let players like Clements (thank god) walk in FA because he wanted an ABSURD amount of money and was not WORTH what he wanted. Look at the SF defense...are they really much better off after giving him what was the biggest contract in history for a defensive player?

 

That doesnt make us cheap, that makes us smart.

 

What about Pat Williams?

 

The Bills let him walk...he was even willing to take less than what he could get in the open market. The Bills were cheap again, and Pat Williiams goes on to be a cornerstone for the Vikings.

Reading this thread makes me glad fans don't make rosters. Trading peters would be stupid. Complete stupidity. Anyone who watched him the second half of this year would realize that he has played very, very well and has deserved the pro bowl.

 

Do people who post actually watch games? Or watch games? Or understand what a pro-bowl tackle is? Jeez.

Langston Walker looked just fine over there... If you move him, then you just have to replace the easier to fill RT spot. Not saying i would trade peters at all, but if the right offer came through the phone, i'd pull the trigger. (Based on our draft performance as of late, I'd prefer proven NFL talent over draft picks)

 

 

Walker can't pass block the slower pass rushers on the right side because he is too fat and slow.

 

Counting on him to play LT against elite pass rushers will require a TE to be permanently a fixed to his hip.

After the season Buffalo had and how the team has handled the situation thus far, I can honestly see Jason Peters holding out until a trade is enforced. Which I dont blame him, the front office said they will talk to players when they report, he reported and nothing has happen. Lee Evans got his extension during the season.....so why not Peters....

If you remember, all of those you mentioned were not worth the money they sought, and we were right in not overpaying for them, as will be the case with Peters.

Jason Peters is not Will Wolford, or even a John Fina... he's a guy that is not a team player, not a stud, and someone will unceremoniously overpay for the guy. You may THINK signing Peters is the right move, but many of us completely disagree. We have lost the last 9 years because of our QUARTERBACK position, and everyone knows it. You could have had AIKMAN's o-line back there, and Losman, Bledsoe, Rob Johnson, Flutie, et al. STILL would have failed. Why is that so hard to see?

I know we would all like to keep our great players but the fact is Mr. Wilson is a cheapskate who won't pay for real talent and I could see him letting Peters walk instead of paying top dollar to keep him. (even though he will overpay mediocre players like Schobel and Kelsay). That is all I'm trying to say.

All of those players signed very large contracts. The problem isn't signing players to big contracts, the problem is finding the correct players to sign. The facts don't support you. Also, Wilson has gone on record saying that not signing Big Pat was a huge mistake and he is still pissed about it until today.

They paid Lee cause he didn't hold out, showed up for all ota's and training camp and played at a high level from game numero uno. Fat Peters didn't....

He has had his share of big plays early in the season, and in the running game, too. Check out his run blocking in the Raiders game on Marshawn's TD run down the left sideline.

I'm thinking that the Bills signed what's his name to add some depth at OT as they get ready to move Peters. My thinking is that the Bills and Ralph "Mr Cheap" Wilson won't be willing to pay what he will demand after his contract is up in 2 years. I'm not sure they will trade him this offseason but next year, IMO, they will definitely shop him. I'm not so sure I would be too upset. He is good but he is going to want big $ and I'm not exactly sure he's worth it. If we could get a 1st round pick I'd be happy. thoughts?

 

 

Put another nail in this team's coffin if they trade him. It is very difficult to find quality left tackles, especially for the talent evaluators of this organization. This is the exact reason why the Bills suck today as they can't keep their top draft picks beyond the rookie contract. Peters had an off year, no offseason work and no camp, yet his peers selected him to the ProBowl.

He had a good year last season and a decent year this season (when he finally got his fat ass in shape), but has not been the "dominant" LT that so many posters on this board -- and evidently many pro bowl voters -- think he is. good left tackles don't grow on trees. I say pay him now before his value goes up any more. make as much of the $$ contingent on performance, whatever. I'm tired of seeing winfield and williams in the pro bowl when cheapo ralph could have easily kept both of them. I am sick of losing. Keep your best players. Spend right up to the cap, Ralph, you cheap SOB. And suck it up and pay Crowell too. No more waiting for draft choices to mature. We have enough of those. Lets win some games.

 

Sadly he has a history of wanting to renegotiate well before his contract is up. Signing him now would make no difference. Peters is a good LT but not good enough to hold the team hostage. Money is his god, and it will continue to be in 2 years when he walks and we get nothing for it.

Let's examine this from Jason Peters perspective.... He wants a new contract or fat extension, so what are his options? His ONLY option is another holdout, and frankly he is stuck in quicksand again because the Buffalo Bills made him "happy" once upon a time 3 years ago! The prevailing sentiment at One Bills Drive is that they don't have to pay Peters a nickel until he proves that he is willing to play first, then negotiate when he's in camp. The Bills said this all along during OTA's, camp, and just prior to the regular season. Who won? The Bills gained the upper hand because another lengthy holdout, this year, will undoubtedly cause the two sides to really entrench themselves and in that scenario no one wins!! The other factor Jason better come to grips with is that Walter Jones got franchised something like 5 times by the Seahawks, so the Bills really have quite the hammer in any further ploys Jasons' people might come up with. The final bit of the equation is that Peters proved that his own self-motivation to stay in shape during a holdout was next to nonexistant! It's his career, let's see if he's smart enough to report and play for his pay this offseason. My personal response would be no to the likelihood.....

That's a great thought. Hope all of our good players stage a silent hold out next year, come in out of shape and contribute from around game 5 or 6. Screw the team, its me first from now on. Put free agents and rookies in the line up for games one through six. Yeah, sounds good to me...
