Jukester
As bad as the coaching/play calling has been this year, the season came down to turnovers. If we protected the football better, we’d probably be in the playoffs. The Bills rank 29th out of 32 teams in giveaways with 14 fumbles and 15 interceptions. Only HOU, STL, and SF were worse. We ranked 28th in turnover differential with a -8. I truly believe that some players just don’t get how important this is. We all know how irresponsible J.P. was with the ball this past week, but if you go back to our losses, almost all come down to a few plays where we were loose with the football. Obviously this needs to be stressed by the coaches and I wouldn’t put it past Dick that he hasn’t done enough of this. But the players have just as much responsibility when they’re out on the field. Simple rule of thumb for these guys that have been playing the game for most of their lives – don’t hand the other team the ball if you want to win. 2008 Wk 1: SEA, 0 giveaways, +2 differential, Win Wk 2: JAX, 1, +1, Win Wk 3: OAK, 3, -2, Win Wk 4: STL, 1, +1, Win Wk 5: ARI, 4, -4, Loss Wk 6: Bye Wk 7: SD, 0, +3, Win Wk 8: MIA, 4, -3, Loss Wk 9: NYJ, 3, -2, Loss Wk 10: NE, 2, -1, Loss Wk 11: CLE, 4, -4, Loss Wk 12: KC, 0, +5, Win Wk 13: SF, 1, 0, Loss Wk 14: MIA, 2, -2, Loss Wk 15: NYJ. 4, -2, Loss Historical differentials and season results: 2007: +9, 7-9 2006: -5, 7-9 2005: +4, 5-11 2004: +10, 9-7 2003: -16, 6-10 2002: -12, 8-8 2001: -14, 3-13 2000: +6, 8-8 1999: -6, 11-5, wild card 1998: +11, 10-6, wild card 1997: -20, 6-10 1996: -8, 10-6, wild card 1995: +2, 10-6, afc east champs 1994: -6, 7-9 1993: +12, 12-4, afc east champs, super bowl 1992: -3, 11-5, wild card, super bowl 1991: +4, 13-3, afc east champs, super bowl Definitely some exceptions to the rule there, but the overall lesson is clear. DC Tom
JauronBall is predicated on protecting the ball and getting turnovers. The players understand the importance. They're just not doing it.
