The play called was fine. With 6 seconds left before the two minute warning, a run to eat up clock time was not required. It is a relatively safe pass play that most competent QBs would know how to handle...if you get pressed, get rid of it out of bounds. The QB in question is not most QBs, and has a particular problem not knowing when to get rid of the ball when in trouble. I guess the coaches should have realized this particular QB has a history of this type of problem so with that in mind mayb they should have run, but I think putting faith in a young QB is essential to their growth. Basically, when pass plays work the coach or OC are lauded as risk takers and thinking outside the box, but if they fail they are inevitably criticized for taking too many risks.

Personally, I have no problem with the play call. It was not the safest call but a QB should be able to handle that situation.

What I have the most problem with is the unbelievable run of poor luck the Bills have had over quite a few years now. I have just now begun to come to terms with it and jokingly refer to it as the "Simpson Curse". The numerous ways the Bills have found failure, along with the many sordid injuries over the years (not to mention 4 SB losses in a row) have all lead to my assertion of metaphysical causes.

It's not a curse or bad luck. It's shooting yourself in the foot.

Why in the hell was JP trying to pass? I though before that play that Dick had finally gotten it. Run out the clock with a strong running game. Football at it's finest. But no, Dick's too "smart" for that. Any football fan knows that when the backup QB is in, and you don't have to pass, you don't. JP made a bad play, but I don't really blame him, he should never have been put in that position.

JP up to that point had played a good game. Not a lot of yards, but not a lot of mistakes either. At least none that hurt us too bad. He threw a TD pass and ran for a TD. 27 points, all on offense. He had pretty much won the game for us. Then Dick steps in ...

Everyone is so determined that Jauron made the call, I don't get it.

With all due respect, I'm not so sure starting over from scratch is a wise choice unless a big name was brought in like Bill Cowher.

Jauron has very little to do with the offense and really had no alternative then to go with what we started.

We couldn't go to a different offense or OC right in the middle of the season.

What do you expect Jauron to do?

Oh--I agree with the concerns on replacing him and starting fresh, I've been over that many times. To answer your question directly, I expect him to manage the football game, utilizing the talent he has around him, and getting the most out of his OC and DC. I don't think they do a particularly effective job managing the game, time-outs/challenges etc. I don't think he's particularly good at maximizing what he can out of his talent. I don't think he's set it up so they can play to the talent of the offense. All that said--I'm not a student of X's and O's, I'm just a guy who'd like us to play well. So, the players may love the guy, but at this point it is what it is. They love palying for a guy who's team has lost a boatload of games. It is what it is.

So, what I'm getting at is just this---he doesn't seem to be a very good head coach, though not all the problems fall on his shoulders.

In the final analysis, he'll probably be here next year, and if they play well and make a run at it, I'll acknowledge I was wrong (at least to myself) and move on. If he's here and they suck, I'll figure I was right.

It's a beautiful thing, this being a fan...

Only because he said he made the call.

I think DJ is a good human being.

That call should get him fired, though. Final straw, IMO.

What is the 2008 terminology for what would have at one time been affirmed with "Word" or "Hell Yeah" that I can say to agree completely without seeming uncool?

I completely agree with The Dean here, I actually like DJ a lot (and often even JP the person how he stands up), but I don't think he should be our head coach any more.
