Bush's Ties to Mexico

Recommended Posts

I always heard that the Dems had the Latino vote still wrapped up, although the GOP has been making inroads in the last few years. The largest Latin population is Mexican American so I would think that most Mexican Americans tend to vote Democrat.

Now if you are talking about South Florida, then you have a point. The largest Latin group in S. FL is Cuban Americans and they have voted overwelmingly GOP for the last couple of election cycles, because of the anti-Cuban (Island) statements made by Repubs and the whole Elian Gonzalez thing a few years back. The recent change in visitation and money transfers policies that the Bush Admin. has instituted, may change that somewhat.

Wan't there some "scandal" a few years back about Gore influencing immigration to loosen up so there could be a big influx of hispanic/democrat voters for the 96?

I don't know anything about that, but I do remember the swearing in of thousands of Marielito's in the Orange Bowl during the first Reagan Admin., then they immediately were registered as Republicans who gave S. FL to the Republicans.

Marielitos was the term given to the People who came over to S. FL from the Cuban Port of Mariel when Fidel opened the Port, and his jails, and sent them over here in a massive imigration which President Carter was blamed for. Carter got the blame for letting them in, and Reagan reaped the reward of Naturalizing them and then registering them.

je me souviens? Well, things are becoming a little more clear here... <_< Between the French Canadian influence and hanging out with the gang that you do day to day, no small wonder you have the ideas you do. Just try to remember what I said to you about going native.

Ohhh no... I don't think I'm going to turn into an Italian jet setter, or a Turkish businessman, or a French patriote! :D

There is no French-Canadian 'influence' here actually... it's just family ;)

I have the ideas I do because I've been all over the world, been fortunate enough to have a father who taught me to learn as much as I can, and I think big business and politics are TOO intertwined, negatively affecting America!

Canada is clean, the people are genuine and friendly, and there is no constant squabbling over race, abortion, religion, etc. The language problem is the major issue, and beyond that, I wish that is what America could be. Forget the socialistic medicine, or the very high taxes; I'm talking a civilized society where people don't blame everyone else for their problems, or elect people who just aren't worth a damn.

I'm lucky because Canada isn't the only place where that is the case... I find it all over Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, and that's where my home is going to be after I get out, the rest of my life. I've been to 48 states (sans Alaska and Hawaii), and from what I have seen, only the unspoiled parts of the Mountain West can match my native home...

You have never been to Edmonton then. Seems like the local customs include harrassing/beating the stevestojan out of Native Americans. The hatred toward that group is horrible. I spent a few weeks there and almost got in a fight because some !@#$ felt it was fun to throw rocks at a Native American half passed out on a bench. It wasn't a teenager either it was a 40+ year old guy in a suit at lunch time. Some of the folks from the project there mentioned there is a lot of problems with the Candians doing this and they obvious are very bigoted towards the Natives.

Well OK THEN, I can't speak for Western Canada, but as far as French Canada and the Maritimes go, I haven't seen that at all. Maybe it's a 'Wild West' sort of treatment... I dunno... I'll ask the Canadian guys tomorrow at work what's goin on in the big E...
