KurtGodel77 Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 It's going to be a few weeks before Losman is ready, and in the meantime it would be nice to make a change at QB. If we cut Drew now, we could take the salary cap for that signing bonus this year so we'd be free and clear next year. But you can't go into a game with just Shane Matthews at QB. You need someone else. Someone who has Neil O'Donnell's ability to avoid key mistakes. But you also need to get the guy at as cap-friendly a figure as Neil O'Donnell would represent. He should be a proven veteran who has Neil O'Donnell's ability to pick up the offense quickly. He should be able to manage the game as well as Neil O'Donnell. He should also be able to open the offense up the way Neil O'Donnell can. The purpose of this post is just to mention general qualifications for QB, not to talk about any names in particular. Names like Neil O'Donnell. TD should choose the best QB for the team over the next few weeks, even if it means bringing a player out of retirement. He should carefully consider all his options at QB, beginning with Neil O'Donnell.
KurtGodel77 Posted October 27, 2004 Author Posted October 27, 2004 Something I forgot to add above: the QB should have the same leadership abilities as . . . well you get the idea.
Cutting Drew With Dignity Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 While we're at it, do you think the Bills can get Larry Brown to bolster the secondary?
Alaska Darin Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 While we're at it, do you think the Bills can get Larry Brown to bolster the secondary? 88775[/snapback] Only if every team we play against has to start Neil O'Donnell at QB.
Guest Guest Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 We could coax Joe Namath out of retirement. His arm isn't what it use to be, but he'd offer a little more mobility in the pocket.
Cutting Drew With Dignity Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Plus the fact that he tried to convert a Lesbian on nat'l TV proves he still has the fire.

Campy Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Neil O'freekin Donnell? Yeah, he'd turn things around
MavBavButav Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 we might as well trade a bag of footballs for tommy maddox...... pittsburgh has no more use for him. and cut izell reese.....he looks more lost than chris watson.
Guest Guest Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 this has to be one of the dumbest posts ive read. on any message board. ever. and i go to a lot of boards.

Cutting Drew With Dignity Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 That mic she uses is the closest she's ever come to a phallus.
KurtGodel77 Posted October 29, 2004 Author Posted October 29, 2004 My original post was intended more as humor than as a realistic suggestion about what the Bills should do at QB. Though they could (and are) doing worse than having Neil O'Donnell at QB.
John from Riverside Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Well....I know that it is not a popular opinion....but I say give Mathews a shot......especially if we are not getting it done in the first half..... Seriously....when JP Losman gets ready he is going to be in their....so maybe allowing the backup QB to take over the team for a couple of weeks is the SMART thing to do.....it allows for a easier transition from Bledsoe to Losman....Mathews knows he is the backup.....and if he plays well we can keep him around to be back up next year as well.....Drew will surely be gone...... I just have this feeling in my gut that this team would put points on the board with Mathews in their......since the O Line is not protecting well we cant throw deep anyway......Mathews makes smart decisions with the ball even if he doesn't have a strong arm...... I would give it a shot....what are we going to do....hurt our record?

eball Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 can't cut drew now...too much of a cap hit. need to wait until next summer. just tell him to hand the ball off or throw deep posts to evans and moulds.
JAMIEBUF12 Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 we either start bledsoe and take losses or we start matthews and hope for a few wins

How about a change when inside the red zone? DB is obviously OK at moving the team down inside the 10. Its from there he sucks. I say there is no down side to using Shane Matthews inside the 10 until JP is ready. If we improve the red zone performance, we are 5-1.
