I can't watch the video at work but I can guess what it is. I had a 13 cent tip last night. I know certain drivers that would give a nice lawn job for a tip like that. <_<

When I was delivering Pizzas the non-tipping houses were well known and drivers would jockey to avoid them. If you knew a house was a poor tipper a lot guys, not me of course :wallbash: , would shake the sodas really hard and then tell the people in the house to "Be careful I ran with it."

There's a lot of things drivers will do if you're a poor tipper. Some nasty some demeaning. Some drivers I worked with hand back a 13 cent tip and say "Keep it. You need it more than I do."

If you're a bad tipper then your name is well known at the pizza makers. The minimum tip now should be $3.

Now, I tend to overtip everyone, and that includes pizza delivery guys. But, what do you do when there is an $8 delivery charge? Do you assume SOME of that is for the driver?

I don't know. I never worked at a place with a minimum delivery charge. My guess is that the driver doesn't see dime one of that money. Next time you call ask if the tip is included in that price.

I haven't used the delivery at the place in question. It isn't that close to where I live, and the pizza is just OK. But, it is close to a friend's house. I just noticed the minimum delivery charge (8$) on the menu.

To me, that's offensive, especially in St Augustine. I didn't pay anywhere near that for one of the most expensive places in San Francisco. Typically, I give the driver at least $5. Add another $8 and the cost of the delivery rivals the cost of the pizza.

Deano, sure thats not "we ain't deliverering unless you buy at least $8 worth of food"? Thats what I would think.

But to your question, I have gotten over tipping the guys who bring you rrom service. Every hotel now has a charge for room service, then another 18% on top that goes to the server. Was hard at first to not tip, but hey, enough is enough. After all, the non unionized hotel workers ....

That guy would deserve a peeing on his next pizza IMO. <_<

I hated delivering in super bad weather only to get a horrendous tip.

Or to get yelled at. Sometimes when the weather was bad everyone would order delivery. I was walking up to this house once and the husband saw me and was leaving. He just nodded and kept going. I found out why. His wife was on the war path over the pizza being late. I had like five orders in the car and she was going nuts, calling the shop and arguing with them. They got her settled down and I was about to leave and she opened the box and found out it wasn't cut in squares. She blew up again. We had to call again and she got her discount and I ran out of there. Ah, the good old days

You deliver pizza's inkman?

I have been thinking about doing that for extra cash.

Yep, it's my second job to help with some of the bills. On a good night (Fridays for the most part), I can make upwards of $75 in tips for a six hour shift (although the last two hours are pretty dead, so it's mostly from 5pm-9pm). Fifteen bucks an hour or so (I basically consider the $7 an hour I make a wash with the cost of the gas I use).

Good question about the pizza delivery. Typically (at Chinese restaurants, for example) the menus say "Delivery $10 minimum" for example. This menu said "Delivery charge, minimum $8", and something like "depending on delivery address". Now, this is when gas was $4 a gallon, too. So, I don't know the answer, for sure.

I'm with you on room service, too. I usually add a small additional tip, or toss a few singles into the mix, but I will not add 20-30% to the already charged 18% (or whatever). If I think I may need a lot of the staff's help, during a stay, I try to grease everyone early, and get good word of mouth.

Even with my 4 x 4, I ended up in a ditch on the side of a dudes driveway last night. Good thing he had a Hummer to pull me out, and he gave a $7 dollar tip, so I was jacked.

Well aren't you a tolerant one <_< . How do you know that might not be the last bit of money they had and couldn't tip.

If you knew there was going to be the possibility that you werent going to get a tip, why take the job? And since when is it a requirement to tip Pizza delivery drivers?

( I tip usually 3 or 4 bucks on a pie )

When I worked as a bartender as a young man, I would sometime get pissed at being stiffed, or severely undertipped, when I gave quality service.

But, at my most recent brief stint behind the bar (at the Seneca Niagara Casino, when it first opened), I couldn't believe how some of the younger bartenders acted. They would give crappy service to someone who they thought would be a bad tipper, or hadn't tipped them the last time. That offended me, too.

My philosophy was, give everyone excellent service, be fun, and you will make good tips. (I was one of the few males that everyone wanted to work with, as I made the same, or more, tips as the hot female bartenders...and we split tips, by bar, then.) It doesn't do anyone any good to fret over some jerk, or person who just might have lost all of his/her money, and get all pissy about it. Tipping, while customary, IS optional.

In all my time behind the bar, or in the kitchen, I never defiled anyone's food or drink, or shorted them booze, etc. That's just bulls#it, IMO. Now, a good tipper might find that they get a little bonus, on occasion...but, that's different than screwing a paying customer, IMO.
