Bills accept losing because Ralph Wilson accepts losing

Ralph thought it was uproaringly hilarious the Bills scored a total of 6 points in the past 2 games and laughed, saying they were lucky to have scored that many the way they were playing...He then said they just don't have the talent to compete. Wow, great statement there Ralph. Laugh about your team because you know you aren't willing to spend the money to make it into a contender and are happy to just rake in the dollars regardless of the crap product on the field. What a sad, sad state of affairs when the owner of a team has so little competitive fire that he doesn't even care anymore if they win or not.

He should care the MOST of anyone, and it appears he could care less...no wonder why the Bills are losers...their owner only cares when they are losing and it appears ready to affect his bottom line, they hire losers to coach players who then lose, and don't know anything but losing, and then get free agents who come in and join the players used to losing and start losing themselves....What the hell kind of environment is that to succeed in for anyone??

Unfortunately, like Thurman said, it isn't gonna end until someone else owns the team....

It astonishes me how much people want to read into Jerry Sullivan's comment that Ralph laughed.

How do you know what it meant? How does Sully? Was Ralph laughing ruefully, angrily, sarcastically, dyspeptically?

You have no idea.

I heard the interview on the radio...it was a cracking up laughter like he just heard a funny joke at the comedy club...

Was he laughing at Sullivan? Was it a laugh of hopelessness? of frustration?

You still have no idea. You can choose to focus on the worst possible interpretation, but that says more about the interpreter than about Wilson, or even Jerry S.

Pollock's take:

Wilson consented to an interview after Sunday’s game and when asked about the embarrassing loss to Miami, he laughed heartily and admitted, “I’m used to it.”

He added, “We just didn’t play well ... we haven’t got the talent.

“The coaches? They can’t go out and kick the ball. They can’t go out and tackle. Hey, the way we’re playing it’s tough to get three points.”

the virus starts at the head and infects the rest of the organization

Teams go up, and they go down. Ralph was at the helm when we had Kelly and Smith and Thurman, too. Where was the talk of viruses then? He was at the helm when we won the two championships.

He made the mistake of hiring Donahoe, and that has destroyed us for a lot of years. But the main problem is that many people actually looked at last year's Bills and said "Gee, this team is surely going to the playoffs next year." It takes time and good luck. This was never going to be our year. Next year, who knows.

He was also the owner whilst the franchise got whooped for the decade by the fish. Ralph's been a failure a whole lot more than he's been a success. Eff Ralph Wilson.

And as far as your "this year was never going to be our year, maybe next year" nonsense I have one word for you: SUCKER.

<_<

are you kidding???? that was 15 years ago...

what has he done since? Has he gotten mentally sharper or is he more out of touch than ever before? What has been the general direction the team has taken in oh.. say the past DECADE and a half (minus a few decent years in the late 90's)

Actually, we are losing because our owner acts like a fan....if you don't like the sound of that, too bad. Too many knee jerk reactions and quick fixes. You don't get good quickly, regardless of what your idol writes in the paper or says on the radio. Now open that bag of potato chips and turn on MTV

It's actually worse than that. He wants to win, but not nearly as badly as the fans do, and he also has no idea how to accomplish what little drive he actually has. He does just enough to get our collective hopes up year after year, but not nearly enough to actually produce a winner. It's the sports equivalent of hell.

<_< Yes, that decade-long drought is but a mere speck in geological terms.

I used to believe that, actually. But then the Dolphins in one offseason bring in a new, competent coaching staff, and rebuild both of their lines, and are instantly competitive in one of the toughest divisions in football. I'm sold.

Thats an intelligent move- bring in people who know what they are doing and stay out of their way

So RW puts the blame on the players while, in Pollock's article, JP insists the talent and effort are both there - seemingly placing the blame on coaching (as does Evans), which then goes back to the front office and, ultimately, RW. No wonder Ralph prefers to blame the players.

Personally, I think the talent is there. This coaching staff can't teach, can't motivate, can't use the available roster of talent to maximum advantage, and certainly can't call effective plays or manage game day situations wisely.

Phuk the Bills.

They're not the most talented roster in the league by any stretch of the imagination, but they're not all dogmeat, either. They remind me of a high school team I watched this season -- motion penalties, timeouts because kids lined up wrong, jumping offsides, out of position, etc. The difference? You kind of expect that from kids who are still learning the game. Professionals, highly paid to do this for a living? Not so much. Yeah, coaches can't run, block, throw, or catch ... but when dropped passes and dumb penalties become systemic, one has to wonder what they ARE doing with their time.

And the clock-management disasters are so obvious that they need no further analysis.
