Wilson from Gamehendge
I know this is a long post...but I think I have some good points to get out there. If they have been shared already, I am sorry...but I just wanted to make my own post and share my thoughts. Okay, I have observed and watched over the forum for the whole season now, and I just cannot keep my thoughts to myself any longer. I need to vent and get some thoughts? First off...after our downfall, I threw out a piece of paper with my thoughts about our nice start. I said to myself, this team is talented and well-coached. But the most important thing I thought was, that this team was playing with heavy hearts and motivation, for their own fallen soldier, Kevin Everett. It seemed like after he showed up at the first home game, these guys were playing for him...a teammate that lost the opportunity to play the game he has loved his whole life. They seemed to understand that it could happen to any and ALL of them, at any point. What the hell happened? Well, I am not exactly sure I or anyone else can put a finger on it...but I have some ideas. Was Everett forgotten? Do these guys take EVERYTHING for granted? Do we really just suck this bad as a TEAM and organization? I highly doubt it. They are all PROFESSIONALS at this level for a reason. We have a VERY talented team, all across the board. With an offense featuring such a highly touted QB as Edwards was, a frickin' horse like Marshawn, another RB who could start on some teams in Jackson, and a WR corp like we have...we should be putting up A LOT of points, EVERY game! Not to mention, we have the biggest and heaviest O-Line in the NFL. Can we say SOFT? Why are we soft? It all boils down to our coaching staff. I watch coaches like Mike Tomlin, Tony Sparano, John Fox, John Gruden, Tom Coughlin, Eric Mangini and other WINNING football coaches...and they are just as into the game as the players and the fans. Jauron shows NO emotion...ZIP, ZERO, ZILCH...!@#$IN NO EMOTION! Watching the Giants game and the Steelers game on Sunday...those 2 coaches were SOOO into the game. I believe it was when Justin Tuck blocked a kick and it was taken back for a TD, Coughlin was RUNNING with his player side by side down the field, cheering him on! Mike Tomlin, after some big plays in that game, would run to his players and hug them, slap them on the helmets and GET HIS TEAMED FIRED UP! We are missing the passion. We need somebody young and creative at the helm. We need a young HC to surround with an older OC and DC, that can get this team fired up and prepared. We need to practice outdoors and not take Monday and Tuesdays off. This team does not lack TALENT, it may lack a couple key players at key positions...TE, FB, RG, C, DE, OLB and CB. Not in order, but those should be our draft picks this year. A receiving TE is crucial in this league, especially for a young QB. A blocking fullback, although rare today, is a much needed necessity for a team like Buffalo. Brad Butler is alright, but we need somebody with fire, somebody who wants to tear people apart...same at Center. DE depth is missing, Schobel and Kelsay are good and Ellis will be a fine player, but we need a STUD...see Tuck, Ware, Umenyiora...etc. An OLB like Joey Porter would be nice to line up with Poz and Kawika. I think we are set at CB, honestly, but a BIG/Physical CB would be nice...Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie comes to mind as somebody I would have liked to get this past year. I like Leodis, A LOT, but he is no bigger than McGee, Greer and Youboty. Last thing I wanna say is...the "Tampa-2" is NOT working. Whether we have the "RIGHT" players or not, it is not working at all. Look at these teams who whoop our asses, they play the 3-4 defensive scheme. That seems to be the new thing. Look at the leaders in sacks this season, Joey Porter, Demarcus Ware and James Harrison, ALL PLAY IN THE 3-4 defense! The Steelers, Cowboys, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, Chargers, Browns and 49ers are all teams that come to mind that play the 3-4 defense. 5 of those teams beat us, and the others are some of the BEST teams in the NFL, year after year. The Colts and the Bucs, other "Tampa 2" defenses, are horrible. The Bucs got ripped for 300 rushing yards tonight. Could you imagine a defense with Schobel and Kawika at the OLB's and Poz and Crowell in the middle, or Kawika in the middle and Crow on the outside. Then we could have Stroud in the middle, Kelsay at 1 DE and say Spencer Johnson or McCargo at the other DE with their speed and power. Folks...the problem is NOT the players. This team is VERY young and inexperienced. This year was a hell of a learning experience for these kids. The execution is mediocre, but it is the coaching and the philosophy that is the problem. It has nothing to do with spending money, its all about spending the right amount of time to figure out who fits the job description the best. We all know Dick Jauron was hired because of his relationship with Marv Levy...well he is gone, and Dick needs to go too. We need somebody who will use these players for what the are best at. Get the ball in Roscoe's hands, run Marshawn 25 times a game, use the Wild-cat with Jackson and Lynch, use Losman for his athletic ability and speed like the Jets use Brad Smith or the way the 49ers use Michael Robinson, or even look at Seneca Wallace out in Seattle. No matter what though...at the end of the day. This is my team! I will love them and root for them no matter what. I cried myself to sleep as a child, 4 YEARS IN A ROW, then wouldnt go to school the next day. If I survived that, I can take this bullsh--. My Pops ALWAYS told me, before he passed away in June...the Bills and the Sabres will break your heart for the rest of your life. However, I still BILLIEVE! We just need some changes. It worked for Miami and Atlanta. But will we ALWAYS have NEXT YEAR to look forward to? I see positive changes coming...we are fighting for our spot in the NFL as the BUFFALO BILLS...and I honestly think Russ Brandon and Ralph Wilson know this. I am done ranting and raving...just had to get this off my chest. I am sure I will think of stuff I missed and I will add it to this post...but in the mean time, what do you all think? Thank you! (The thought of McNabb in a Bills uniform...really tickles my fancy. I love the idea of bringing McNabb back to the area. And my vote for our NEW HEAD COACH would be DC Steve Spagnoulo from the Giants.)
