The Poojer
how so? it is a no lose situation for him, he goes from C-USA, to automatic BCS berth League(again), if he is able to turn it around, he grooms himself to replace weis if that is his true intention....i dont see why this would be a foolish move for him He's a fool if he takes the Syracuse job

duey
I like how adament Lou Holtz was that "there is no way" that Ball State loses to Buffalo, and how he made pretty much the same statement about ECU's chances against big, bad Tulsa. Steely Dan
It's going to be very difficult to recruit players to Syracuse. Plus it's better to be champs/contenders in a non-BCS conf than bottom feeders in the Big Least Since Syracuse has the best school of broadcasting in all of the college's. The guys who may want to pursue a broadcasting career after playing might be very attracted to Syracuse. If the Carrier Dome didn't exist it would be near impossible but a winning program will attract great players.

Only Pitt and Cincinatti are even ranked. 3 teams from the Mountain West, as supposedly inferior non-BCS conference, has 3 ranked teams, two of them higher than any Big East team. The truth is the Big East is the joke of the BCS conferences. PTR
The Poojer
WAH! the "lesser" conferences have had a resurgence recently and now everyone comes out of the woodwork claiming the Big East, in a down period, doesnt belong, despite proving themselves at the time leading up to the formation of the BCS. Boise State is a proven team, but after that, the other teams couldnt hold the jock of any of the other teams in the BCS conferences....on a consistent basis(that is the important part). Lets see where things shake out in time then lets reassess whether the mountain, c-usa and the mac deserve a spot in the bcs...if yes, then restructure....but not now So what does "automatic BCS" mean anyway? Only Pitt and Cincinatti are even ranked. 3 teams from the Mountain West, as supposedly inferior non-BCS conference, has 3 ranked teams, two of them higher than any Big East team. The truth is the Big East is the joke of the BCS conferences. PTR That's kind of the point. It means the teams can suck, but they still get the exposure and the money that the BCS offers (The horribly down Big East is a great example of that) And I agree with Poojers post. It's great that the lesser conferences are starting to get better, but they are still playing each other all year. Do you think Hawaii would have beaten most of the top teams of other conferences last year? Even the consistently better teams like BS wouldn't win much over the course of season. The rankings are inherently flawed when it comes to comparing teams and conferences against other teams and conferences that have not played each other, and using them to make an argument is really pointless. On topic, Skip Holtz is surprising. Obviously I have no idea about the details, but if Turner Gill and Mike Locksley, who both interviewed, were really interested in taking the job, I think they both would have been better hires. Wearing one of those things should make a recruits eyes pop open. I'm shaking my head at this one if true. Why go with another coach with zero ties to NE recruiting? Yeah, he played a Cuse, but damn. If he's the guy he better hire a staff with some NE ties.

I thought for sure Gross would have realized it was time to go with someone who has head coach experience, but now we get another NFL coordinator? I thought for sure Gross would have realized it was time to go with someone who has head coach experience, but now we get another NFL coordinator? Personally, I'd rather have a proven college coordinator ready to make the jump to head coach than to have even a NFL head coach. I don't know when these guys will realize that as far as coaching goes these are two totally different games. (edit) Not to say it can't work, just that success in one doesn't mean success in the other.
