The_Real
No warning. On my day off they call me to say, turn in your stuff. Not based on any type of personal matter, just economics. I've looked for another job that could make me any type of similar earning potential and there is none. I'm one of those guys who really takes pride in his work. I love my job. Dealing Craps isn't only fun, it's challenging. Not any dope can do it. It's apparent that I won't be able to do that here anymore and I guess what is... is. Really bad day yesterday. To do that to me 3 weeks before Christmas really really hurts. No Christmas bonus? No, no job. If it were me and me alone, I'd be okay. How do you tell a 2 year old not to expect as much for Christmas. Really really tough day.

He was only full time for a little over a year, so he is towards the bottom on call backs. 3 good friends were let go from my office yesterday along with 3 others I really didn't know. Our office is pretty small, maybe 60 people, so to lose 6 is pretty significant. At least they received a severance package though. Everywhere you look there are layoffs, this is truly a very scary time. Good luck, hope everything works out for you and your family....

thebug
Sorry to hear that, keep your chin up. The good news is your 2 year old won't really care as long as there's something to open on christmas morning and dad is there for it. Good luck. Dwight Drane
Sorry man.....the entire gaming industry is getting killed. The days of "If you build it, they will come", are over. Gambling will always live on, but the industry is overgrown. I laugh at the big Casino debates with the city of Buffalo. In typical fashion we are 15 years behind in trying to get something done. There are plenty of states and companies shelving projects now. I don't know what other experience you have, but Delaware North is going to need a few hundred people to help with the casino addition to the racetrack in NYC. I think a lot of it may be white collar type stuff, but if you can run a craps game, you have more relevant experience than a legal secretary in my opinion. \GoBillsInDallas/
I laugh at the big Casino debates with the city of Buffalo. In typical fashion we are 15 years behind in trying to get something done. Sadly, that's the problem with Buffalo that has been discussed ad nauseum on this board. So many of the politicians there think in terms of the "magic bullet" that will solve all of Buffalo's problems. Things like: "signature span" Peace Bridge new federal courthouse Bass Pro big office building built by shady foreign developer big hotel built by shady foreign developer big cable television building built by shady cable television owner big casino built by Indians on land in violation of gaming agreements None of those politicians ever want to talk about reducing levels of government, or repealing costly government laws. If Buffalo was going to build a casino back when they were rare, that would be one thing. To build one when every jerkwater town has one is another. No one is going to come to Buffalo for a gambling vacation. All you'll get are locals with their welfare and unemployment checks. Profit from misery. Just my take. PTR Very true...if they were smart, they would build some sort of entertainment complex/convention center/hotel....you have the land, and the steel already (partially) up...just build something on it
