Poor Nate Had Nothing To Do in Buffalo

I am not expert on Atlanta, but one of the things that I have heard is that it is one of the few places in the country that has a thriving and extensive African-American middle class.

Miami is where I live now. Miami has amazing night life. Because there are a lot of models down here, the "talent" here (like LA) is on a different level completely. Nines and tens elsewhere are not nines and tens here.

When I was single and going out on Miami Beach, I had a lot of fun. Having said that, I also always enjoyed going out in Buffalo. Friends of mine not from Buffalo have always been pleasently surprised when I have taken them out in Buffalo.

I think that the posters who have emphasized the demographics issue have it right.

Dont act like Atlanta is Miami north. Been to Atlanta a few times, that city could not hold a candle up to Miami as far as nightlife & clubs go. Not many cities can. If you want traffic & lots of it Atlanta is the city for you.

In the US, only New York could be considered on the same level as Miami. New York's probably better.

And then you wonder why Buffalo has a rep for thin skin. Nate didn't say anything negative about the city. He just stated the obvious, especially when you put it in comparison to his current employer and Atlanta & Miami, etc. Buffalo is a good place to live & raise kids. But let's not get all worked up that it doesn't compare with major metropoli for breadth of entertainment options.

...i think to call these guys "ignorant" is a little harsh... But i dont think that Nate said anything that wasnt true. Buffalo isnt a Miami or an Atlanta. He's actually saying it HELPED his career and HELPED him earn that big payday. If any smart player is reading that, they should take it as Buffalo being a great place to build a career.

It's not ignorant for any athlete, black white or brown, to say he was able to focus more on his job because the city his NFL team played in had less night life distractions then other cities he could have played in? What do you call that statement, intelligent?

How about saying Buffalo was a great place to play his first 4 seasons, and then just shutting up and leaving it at that? Is that so hard?

I don't remember his current teammate on the 49ers, TKO, considering Buffalo's lame night life for black athletes so important that he didn't sign his huge 4 year deal with the Bills back in 2003? And how about Marcus Stroud leaving that cool nightlife in Jacksonville near the beach to come up here to a town that has no MTV rap clubs?? Jacksonville might not be Miami, but it has to have a few clubs down there in that warm weather, doesn't it? Who else can we mention? How about poor Roscoe Parrish? How in the world does he survive up here, after spending his college days at the U right in Miami?

I hear ya. Those cities you mentioned are world class cities. Buffalo can not compete against them, neither can 99% of the other cities/regions in this country. But when you say there is not much to do here I do not get that. We have skiing; is it Killington or the Rockies? No, but Ellicottville is still pretty neat. We have casinos, is it as good as the main strip @ Las Vegas? No, but it will get the job done. We have musicals at Sheas. Is it broadway, no, not many places are. We have Art Galleries, museaums, several bar districts, beautifull golf courses(I would rate the upper @ Peak n Peak against any public course in the south), we have a beautifull fresh body of water, that is just awesome in the summertime for water recreation, Lake Erie is one of the top notch fishing places for Bass fishing in the entire country, we have an abundance of deer/wild turkey here if hunting is your thing to occupy you in the fall/spring, we have one of the great wonders of the world in Niagara Falls just a long 3 wood away from the cities skyline, we have a collection of the best strip clubs in all of North America just a short drive over the peace bridge, we have some of the best bar food in the country(I will agree if you want some international cuisine from india or something buffalo is not the place to be - who wants that crap anyways), & most importantly we have something that no other city could compete with..... THE BUFFALO BILLS!!!!!!

I just do not understand when people say there is not alot to do here. There is more to the WNY region then just the eastside that you out of town folks seem to concentrate on when putting down the city.

Are you kidding me? Let's look at those things you mentioned in the context of what a young, rich, athlete generally seeks. Skiing? Pass. Musicals? Pass. Niagra Falls? What, are you going to go there every weekend? Pass. Art Galleries and museums? Pass. Fishing and hunting? Pass. Golf? Not likely. The casinos, bars and strip clubs are certainly draws, but as you admit yourself, it's not Vegas or Atlanta or Miami.

I happen to love the all-night bar scene in Buffalo. There are plenty of attractive single girls at the bars who are more than willing to drop their panties for guys who have all of their teeth, if not much else going for them. But that's simply amateur hour for a professional football player. For the hottest girl at a bar on any given Friday night in Buffalo, there are 100 hotter ones in multiple bars in NYC and Miami. These athletes are going to be idolized by mostly white young kids in college at UB or Fredonia. Football players like that, but they've had that their entire adult lives - they want more. They want to meet and hang out with CELEBRITIES.

You are living in a pretend world.

Jim Kelly signed will Houston of the USFL because he didn't want to come to Buffalo.

He signed with the Bills because the USFL collapsed and he ran out of options.

He laughed at Buffalo.

Wake up !

Wake up to what, 1983? Now that would be pretty cool. I was 24 that year, and the 80's were awesome. But sadly, we all must continue to live in the present. Sorry I forgot that Kelly was a different person 25 years ago. I just admire the fact he loves Buffalo today, has decided to stay here 11 years after retiring, and also seems serious about somehow trying to keep the Bills here after Wilson dies. No wonder I have long forgotten that Kelly "laughed at Buffalo" when he was a kid coming out of college.

I really don't see how that compares to Nate Clements throwing a cheap shot at Buffalo the first time he is coming back to play against the Bills for the 49ers, but maybe you are just one of those Kelly haters.

Word.

Word??

I don't care if Clements is white or black, it was not neccessary for him to say Buffalo's boring night life made him a better CB. Night life has nothing to do with an athlete's performance on the field. Poor black kids from Georgia make just as much money as rich white kids from New Jersey when they are both drafted in the first round! Neither one of them should be bringing country western bars or rap clubs into their reasoning for why they improved from their rookie seasons to their free agent seasons.

Switch it around! The Bills have spent money on free agents, just like the 49ers, Falcons and Dolphins. If San Fran would have drafted Clements, and Buffalo would have been the team that signed him to his huge deal, what do you think Nate would be saying to the San Fran media this week? Something like; "Well, despite your amazing number of rap clubs I could have partied in, I was able to stay away from them and concentrate on football enough to deserve Buffalo's huge contract."??? Of course not. He would not have brought the stupid subject up at all.

Just accept it all you liberals who think we true Buffalonians are just being over-sensitive. Buffalo does take a lot of ignorant stupid dumb shots all the time from athletes and the media all the time.

And that's the WORD.

I am really tired of the insecurity of Buffaloians. The city is what it is, it is a great place with outstanding food, people, and natural resources (Lake etc.), but it is not a South Beach, Greenwich Village, SoHo, Sunset Strip, Rush Street, and Buckhead. I have been to all these places and the chicks, money, clubs, scene are all off the charts. I live in LA, and the women at the SkyBar or ViperRoom are second to none. But we are talking about a handful of cities in the world that can offer this type of entertainment for rich young men. Buffalo has nothing to be ashamed of, but it can't compare to the places I mentioned above, facts are facts.

Exactly.

But, I admit to sometimes shaking my head when I hear/read an athlete, or writer/announcer speak of how little there is to do, in Buffalo. It doesn't have the glitz of many cities, that's for sure...but if you can't find something to do (just about anything, actually) at night in the WNY area, you aren't trying. You may have to make the drive to Toronto to get some of the high-end glitz, if that's your thing, but Buffalo isn't Green Bay.

And, while I agree that many from WNY have far too thin of skins, when it comes to this stuff, you have to wonder why it is rare to hear players or announcers bang on places like Pittsburgh (which I love), Minneapolis or Jacksonville. I dare you to suggest there is more to do in those towns (and many others) than there is in WNY/Southern Ontario (I include NF, Ontario where there is a LOT to do).

It'd be easy to say that Nate was an idiot for thinking that there was nothing for him to do in Buffalo because there's nothing farther from the truth. However, thinking about it, while if any of us said there was nothing to do in Buffalo, we'd look like idiots, the same can't be said about pro athletes all the time. It's not that they can't find places to go in Buffalo, but they're not exactly anonymous here. If a Bills player goes out on Chippewa, he'll definitely get noticed and recognized....especially when you consider how much Western NY loves the Bills. It's easier in the larger cities for celebrities to escape notice like that, though.

Keep the pipe, you need to smoke it more then the rest of us. Ask Derick Dockery how dis-satisfied he is with the Buffalo night life, while he deposits his 7 million dollars a year into his small town Buffalo bank account, OK? He's black, he's young. I wonder if he isn't spending too much time going to Buffalo's non-rap clubs though. He is not playing that well.

I'm not worked up because Buffalo doesn't campare to other cities. I'm worked out because Nate Clements said it was boring, and he had no reason to say anything about the city, good or bad. I will say this however, if he plays as bad against Evans that he played against T.O. last week, I will call the San Fran Chamber of Commerce and thank them for having enough MTV rap clubs to keep Nate distracted these days.

I seriously doubt that Nate hangs out in San Francisco that often, if at all. Nate lives south of San Jose, about 60 miles from the SF, much closer to Niners hq in Santa Clara. I doubt many of the 9ers or Giants actually live in SF. They tend to buy McMansions in the burbs south of the city.

SF has its share of hot women, but it is not really a big late-night party town.

I live near Baltimore...it's ok, it's nothing special...I'm not sure what Willis McMeathead was expecting but he seems to be persona non grata or he's taken up residence at an IHOP along York road...or maybe he's holed up in a condo somewhere in Timonium baking some frozen crab cakes and playing Madden 09.

Let us know what a great time you're having Willis. :censored:

Eventually Willis will tire of Baltimore...it won't be fake enough for him...
