The Bills extended the contract of defensive coordinator Jerry Gray, who

was in the last year of a deal that had been extended prior to 2003, because

they wanted to reward him for a job well done, maintain continuity on that

side of the ball, and decrease the likelihood that Gray, whose reputation

throughout the league is growing, would depart following this season.
