3 year-deal

LAKE FOREST -- Bears general manager Jerry Angelo made good on a two-month-old promise Friday by signing coach Dick Jauron for the next three seasons. After a lengthy negotiation, Jauron had the final year of his current contract torn up and received a new three-year deal running through the 2004 season.

Although terms were not revealed by the Bears, it is believed the pact more than doubles Jauron's annual salary from $1 million to almost $2.3 million.

It also clarifies his responsibilities in relation to Angelo's.

"I feel like we all won," said Jauron, who took the Bears to a 13-3 record in 2001.

"I think that's the nature of the negotiations and you hope they turn out good for you.

General Manager Jerry Angelo said before the season the Bears had playoff potential and when that goal was not met, he fired coach Dick Jauron today, less than 24 hours after a season-ending loss at Kansas City, as reported in the morning edition of the Sun-Times.

"My decision was based on overall record," Angelo said at a news conference this afternoon. "Simply put, expectations weren't met. We're in a bottom line business. Looking at Dick's overall career record, I just didn't feel that the hope we need to move on to the next level was there. And I felt it was in the best interest for everybody to make the decision now."

Jauron also spoke at the news conference. He expressed appreciation ... "

I share the same bold sentiments granted if he has the extensions as reported ( nothing confirmed) I anticipate he will be fired at the end of next season for not meeting the teams expecations.

Two years later "Da Bearsss" were in the Super Bowl.

I can't get over how people won't research DJ's first go-round in the NFL. Those five seasons are a huge indication of who he is, and he's not changing one iota.

In many ways, DJ took over a rebuilding team, got them somewhat respectable, and then had an amazing season in which every bounce went the Bears' way. For the first 2 seasons and 4 games, that was the case. Now we're seeing it was a fluke, and talent wise we're still drafting little people in favor of picking talented big men on the OL and DL.

Actually it wasnt a Fluke he just had the stars aligned like the Browns did with their 10-6 season he only beat 3 teams that season with a winning record and lost 4 to teams with a winnnig record including playoffs and maintained his dominance over <=.500 teams 10-0 and TB at that time wasnt anything spectacular at 9-7

One thing DJ knows is how to beat losing teams he has a win percentage of something like .900 against teams .500 and below and .100 agaisnt teams above .500

So true, it's as if these people like to pretend that Jauron's Bears years never existed. This undying support for him is very weird. I think that they're simply in shock and have yet to gain their senses.

It's like battered-wife syndrome with some Bills fans....we've been beaten down so badly emotionally by this team that any sign of success (5-1 start) is held onto as the hope that those days will return. Even though the jerk (0-4) keeps hurting us, they keep believing he can change into the way things were.
