AnthonyF Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Yesterday was as bad as it gets. 3 decent passes the entire game, only one thrown toward Evans and 10 almost immediate checkdowns to Lynch. I have no problem with empty backfields and shotgun formations as when you have that many out in a pattern someone has to be open. Lynch was a beast yesterday, the line did a great job blocking and Edwards had all day to throw and did absolutely nothing. He was so bad that when he did make a play (pass to Royal), the coaching staff had no confidence that he could get them any closer. I was shocked at how bad he was. Every pass to Lynch was an almost immediate check down. The ints were just terrible passes. Wide open receivers in the end zone on 2 plays at the end of the half and Edwards just couldn't pull the trigger. And worst of all it is probably too late to put Losman back in and see if we made a mistake with him..... I'm at a loss, while I did not want to anoint Edwards, and often have posted my concerns that he did not have a real breakout, I thought he could be good.....
BuckeyeBill Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Don't give up on Trent... he's young and learning.
bizell Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 yes, edwards was atrocious, and his play this season has left a whole lot to be desired. however, we can't do what we did with losman by yanking him in and out whenever he struggles.

Dick-wad and Turd shonert make me seriously physically ill. im afraid they are gonna have to be put down. But Jauron just may be a zombie so im not 100% sure that is possible
Mopreme Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 He is young and learning, the excuses. Let's face it, he is a scrub.
bluv Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 WHile most of the blame SHOULD be on Trent as the blocking was outstanding on BOTH run and pass, the coaches must take blame again for getting shotgun happy in crucial short yardage situations. 4 games in a row we have had 3rd and 2 or less on our OWN 20 or less and we have went to a shotgun throw that has ended badly: sack, fumble, safety, INT! They have to realize that teams have watched the film so they are not catching the D offguard like early in the season plus they realize they all you have to do is double Lee and flood and jump all the short routes. This will cause Trent to freeze up and either get sacked or force a throw; he definitely doesn't anticpate throws so if they aren't WIDE open he will hold it until they are. At least they tried to run the ball out of shotgun and it worked as I know this caught the D offguard as it did me; we normally pass 100% of the time when he does! But I noticed that they only run when Royal is lined in the backfield in a splitback look so I know defenses will catch on to that tendency as well. Bottom line is that we can't put Trent in as many obvious passing situations, especially with his confidence faling like the stock market! Of course we can't protect him the whole game but there shouldn't be as many shotgun attempts until he gets better at reading the D and anticipating throws. They also need to work on his playactions as they are AWFUL and HALF-HEARTED! Brady Quinn in his second start has a much better play fake!

I agree even though it is though as we have to develop a QB. I don't think the WR are the problem, Trents relunctnace to pull te trigger is. Now while I'm not one of those who wants to put JP back in, this is the very reason I wanted to see us stick with JP and develop him as he coming along in 06; last year they didn't give him much of an attempt to attack defenses the way they have given Trent this year. I think if we had stuck with JP, given him a chance to play in this attack down the field type passing game; who knows; we wouldn't be any worse off than we are now!
MRM33064 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Trent was terrible, but let's go back in time for a minute to the punt where Roscoe let it dribble back to our 1. 1. 1-10-BUF 1 (4:52) 23-M.Lynch left guard to BUF 5 for 4 yards (22-B.McDonald; 26-S.Jones). 2. 2-6-BUF 5 (4:15) 23-M.Lynch left guard to BUF 10 for 5 yards (94-L.Williams). 3. 3-1 .... BUF shows shotgun, no backs, a collective <gasp> from the crowd and 73,000 cries of "why?", after 2 successful runs deep in our own territory. But WAIT ..... Timeout #1 by BUF at 03:28 ..... Let's think this over. 4. BUF comes out in shotgun again, no backs. (?!?!?!) 5. 3-1-BUF 10 (3:28) (Shotgun) 5-T.Edwards pass short middle intended for 84-R.Royal INTERCEPTED by 22-B.McDonald [99-C.Williams] at BUF 15. 22-B.McDonald to BUF 12 for 3 yards (13-St.Johnson). Bad pass by Trent. Very bad pass .... but HORRIBLE decision making by our "braintrust." Puzzling.

Puzzling. thank u... that right there is reason enough to be fired on the spot in my opinion. i would have had Jauron and Shonert escorted from the building right there if i was the one paying them. that was the most mind boggling series ive ever seen. Trent has already shown he's shaky, the run is working.... so why not go back to the pass? they do this kinda stuff every week, never learn from it, never learn from the successful drives where we run the ball and score. i cant take it anymore, i wanna punch Dick-wad and Turd in the face every time i think about this and all the other similar situations they have done things that are beyond idiotic
unpaid_bills34 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 The thing that really got me was no attempts to even throw the ball down the field. The Browns all year have been getting deep. We have two of the fastest players in the NFL in Evans and Parrish, the tallest receiver in the league Hardy. Reed gets ZERO looks. Unbelievable. Here is a genious play how about a screen or slant to Evans, maybe a reverse. Yes he was double teamed most of the night but at least try to get the ball to him. Finally they get the running game going but it actually made us a one-dimentional team. The end of the game management was pittiful. You have to take the approach to win the game. 3rd down with the game on the line run a draw. Why not a safe pass to Evans or a Qb bootleg for that matter, the mighty Brady Quinn had 2-3 long runs in the game. Bottom line my 9 year old new the plays they were going to run, you think an NFL DC will know. The last thing i found disturbing was the team attitiude and emotion (or lack there of) Jauron stands on the sidelines shows no emotion not a smile, frown, nothing does the guy have any emotion. Lynch on the other hand is on the sideline acting a fool. Granted on TV you only get what they show you - but you are on MNF in fromt of millions play with some passion, do something different and entertaining at least. Its not just the coaching, they set the tone but the players need to change the attitude as well -- otherwise just more of the same. As Mike Singeltary said "cant win with em, cant do it" or something like that Frustrating team especially after starting 5-1 things were finally looking up ....

Quit blaming the coaches. That was Edwards fault. The whole night was Edwards until the last three plays.....
