After Hit in zona, he is shell shocked "Too fragile" is a way to describe Rob Johnson, not Trent Edwards...at least not yet. Jaworski hit the nail on the head - the first pick wasn't his fault, but the other two were. On both of those throws, he waited too long for the receiver. He has to throw it with the anticipation that the receiver will be in that spot, not wait and see him open. But then it led to him being afraid the entire game to throw it even 10-15 yards downfield. The Browns picked up on his checkdowns and were stopping them by the 4th quarter. Trent had zero confidence last night. Lynch & Jackson were bailing him out with the running game and the runs after catches. But his best throw of the night was his last...down the seam to Royal on their last drive. MRM33064 Posted November 18, 2008 Share Posted November 18, 2008 The real problem with Trent is that he's being "groomed" by Sir Dick Jauron, the King of Mediocrity and his staff of mediocre assistants (with the possible exclusion of Bobby April). In a matter of weeks, Trent went from a quick-read, instinct-driven quarterback to a completely puzzled rookie who stands in the pocket, undoubtedly hearing the ghastly voice of Jauron from practice echoing in his head ... "take what they give you, Trent .... don't make mistakes, Trent .... check it down, Trent ..." Instead of pulling the trigger he stops, tries to steer a pass or dump it off, reverting to the fearful, "conservative" nature he's being taught by his mentors. It's true that Trent needs to execute much better, but it's equally true that we need to completely change this kid's mentality from "take what they give you" to "go take what you want." Good grief, does anybody here remember how many interceptions Peyton Manning threw his rookie year, and Manning is once in a generation quarterback! Give the kid a break... he bounced back and almost won the game despite a 1st quarter that would cause many young quarterbacks to move into a "pack it up and get ready for next week"... mentally. He would have to wait until a guy came wide open before he threw. Trent is so shaken he's doing the exact same thing. Jaws was so ON last night. The good QB's anticipate when the WR is going to break open and hits them in stride. TE was doing that the first 5 games or so. Now he is too shaken and has lost confidence. SUch a waste of a season. No, the reason JP failed is because he had a lousy OC, no playmakers on offense outside of Evans and a half-time RB. But even with how poor he/the offense played at times, he didn't turtle-up like Trent did last night. That was pathetic, and on national TV no less.
