Guest three3 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Jim Kelly may have shot himself in the foot when he sold out to a sports gambling site. He appeared on the site sportsinteraction.com a couple years back as a virtual spokesman-his pre-recorded endorsement of the book appeared on the site's home page and i believe part of this sales pitch included his admission that he has bet on sports-i am fairly certain this was part of his virtual pop up real smooth jimbo, real smooth
SKOOBY Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I bet all the current owners are role models in their communities, like Al Davis losing it.
Fan in San Diego Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Dont know if that would be a problem, but the NFL likes owners who have 1 billion in cash laying around looking for something to do with. They dont want owners who barely qualify.
Guest three3 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 yea, especially, you know, potential owners who have to gamble on sports and endorse gambling sites to make enough bank to even be considered for ownership
John from Riverside Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Dont know if that would be a problem, but the NFL likes owners who have 1 billion in cash laying around looking for something to do with. They dont want owners who barely qualify. I get visions of that movie "major league" where the once player now owner has to sell all kinds of advertiseing signs on his stadium and puts the team on a broken down old cargo jet instead of the cushy ride they had previously. Then there is the ice baths where they put a boat propeller in to work?
Guest three3 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 well, one person thinks it is not a problem 1:28 [Comment From Robby] Hi Mark, Jim Kelly has expressed his desire to own the Bills and keep them in Buffalo. However, he was the spokesman for a sports gambling web site a couple years ago. Will the NFL use this to block his ownership of the team? 1:28 I don't see it as a problem. The only issue - at the moment - is whether his group could outbid Toronto.

Whats he worth?? $20 million if he took care of his money???--So he is an economic non-factor. There would need to be a billionaire involved. Kelly would be the team spokesman. I don;t think his minor involvement in a gambling website is gonna be an issue.
Guest three3 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 uhh it was not minor involvement. kelly taped segments that would appear on the site's homepage, he said ish like "when i want the best odds on sports i go to sportsinteraction.com and you should too.." it was MAJOR involvement wonder how much he had on the bills to lose those 4 super bowls

Kelly may help put a small group together and may be the spokesperson, but he's not going to have any ownership (unless its like 1%). The NFL is going to be concerned with the majority owner(s) - the Billionaires that Kelly is going to have to find (not lots of these guys in WNY).
KRC Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 The issue would not be what he did in the past, but whether he has current gambling ties. If he still endorses that site, then they would force him to stop his affiliation or reject his group's bid for ownership.

murra Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 maybe enough to save the Bills! -he was a prophet and a saviour and a gambler A Houston Gambler...

Guest three3 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 lol, i doubt that he would have bet on them but it is worth considering considering his affiliation with a sports gambling operation. i have heard some really bad things about that oufit too-apparently they steal identities of their gamblers and charge porn to their bank accounts and other BS
Zona Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I dont think Kelly would be an owner. Maybe a minority one at best. Kelly said he had a team of investors. Therefore, we would owned by a group....ALA GB packers...

It's the group of investors behind him who will own the team.
TheKing Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 People get way too carried away with athlete worship. Here are some points for a dose of reality on the ridiculous notion of Kelly as an NFL owner: 1. Kelly is a football jock with a ultra low Wonderlic test scores, not a business man. 2. He has no substantial track record of business acumen. 3. He couldn't successfully operate a bar in downtown Buffalo. 4. He stiffed the local suppliers of his failed bar. So he has a track record of stiffing middle class families dispite have the resources to make good on his debts. That will not bode well for his pitch for NFL ownership. 5. Logically you would need to be a billionaire to purchase an NFL team. 6. Instead Kelly is a millionaire. But his millions came from playing a kids game, not through any demonstration of business savvy 7. He is no more a success in terms of business than anyone off the street who buys a ticket and hits the lottery. 8. A Burger King employee can hit the lottery and instantly become a multi-millionaire. But that wouldn't compel anyone of sound mind to suddenly be asking that person for his financial or business expertise. And the same goes for Jim Kelly leading the way on the purchase of an NFL team, it's ridiculous.

BillnutinHouston Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Kelly would be the team spokesman. If you were a billionaire owner of an NFL team, would you want Jim Kelly being YOUR spokesman?
