People in Baltimore pretty much despise any and all Washington teams.....especially the Redskins over any other. There's a history of hatred there, going back to the days of Washington football owners who did what they could to circumvent any chance of a Baltimore football team. When the Colts arrived that finally changed. No.....Ravens fans and Baltimore people in general hate the Redskins. Does tailgating suck? It's not good, certainly not the same as Orchard Park. Some of it exists, but not a lot. Most of it occurs under that monstrosity of elevated highways in between Camden Yards and the football stadium. I guess it depends on the game.....but I have been at the bank stadium where the Baltimore fans can generate as much noise as at Rich Stadium. Maybe it's easier to generate noise in the bank stadium because the stands are a bit more steep. The upper decks look much closer to one another than Rich Stadium. The stadium itself is quite nice. Needs a few more bathrooms, but plentiful space in the concourses. Overall, inside the stadium looks pretty nice. Field looks really good.....top of the line scoreboards. Overall game presentation is quite good. The prices are the poor thing about the Ravens franchise. Otherwise I think they put on a pretty good show. Boring? No......I don't agree with that at all. So we moved down farther and ended up tailgating with others from Buffalo including Cindy (#89). That stadium does SUCK..the fans were idiots. I must say, the upper decks look quite "cloud-scraping". The more unique feature at the Ravens stadium is having an upper deck in the end zone. Baltimore fans hate Washington. I really like the stadium, it's doesn't have tradition because it's new and the fans may have been less enthused because it was against the Bills (face it, we suck, no rivalry at ALL), the game was pretty dull other than a few plays, and the outcome was pretty much decided early. I've been to a few games -- two versus Pittsburgh and one against Cleveland and the atmosphere was electric. I follow the Ravens and not nearly the fan compared to the Bills but you couldn't help but get into it. Stadium staff is friendly and efficient, pretty/quick short lines at the concession and rest rooms, easy to get in and out and while the traffic can be a B word that's to be expected. The Club Level is to die for. Great sightlines, every seat is good (even way up top - yes, I've been there), sound system is awesome and of course the scoreboard is unrivaled. Oh, and FedEx sucks. And there are no more stadiums, especially new one's that have bad sight lines for the most part. So, all of that stuff should be a given. And it is in the cookie cutter mold. That was also disappointing. I didn't think it was cookie cutter, but maybe my frame of reference is not what yours is. I've only been to NFL games at 9 stadiums, some of which are gone. (Meadowlands, Foxboro, new Foxboro, Pro Player, Orange Bowl, 3 Rivers, Riverfront, Ralph and now Baltimore). However, it was VERY VERY boring. Good sightlines are a given anywhere now. The crowd sucked on when they got into the game, and the endzones weren't even all that fired up. The fan enthusiasm blows. The tailgating is wretched. I'll give you that the crowd sucked, but I was commenting only on the stadium, itself. Nothing grossly wrong with football in Baltimore, it's just not a great NFL experience by any means. I was totally disappointed. Never said it was a great NFL experience, just that I thought the stadium was nice. One of the biggest problems was ticket prices. Very expensive face value. But I end up taking Baltimore's trolly down to the game.....so I rarely ever see any tailgating, since the trolly pretty much passes by the parking lots. Even that has its advantages and disadvantages. My obvious pre-game preference would be in Orchard Park though. No question. Game experience? Baltimore is more of a rival to Buffalo in that regard. Bar none. I did some work for TV, and have seen many, but these things are awesome. That said, the tailgaters suck. The lots around the stadium don't fill until about 11:15 or so. They are all permit anyway. And if you find one for the common folk, the going rate anywhere near was $30. The tailgating was pretty lame, and the mood is tranquil. Not to say some didn't have nice spreads, but overall it's a D+. Inside the stadium itself, it was painfully boring. Nothing cool at all inside the stadium to look at besides the scoreboards. Actually, it's cool that the seats are purple, but that's about it. The place obviously has no tradition or anything so it's pretty boring. All of the seats are divided into little sections of railed in seats, so it looks like the whole bottom level is divided into little boxes of about 1,000 fans each. Crappy. C-, mainly because of how nice the scoreboards are. The fans themselves suck too. The place never really got juiced. It was a little juiced when Sanders ran back the TD, but overall, it sucked. No one really talked about playcalls, or the game at all. Also, didn't get hell at all, for wearing Bills gear. It was nice not to be hassled at all, but gee, cmon, yell something at me for christs sakes. D+ Overall, a VERY boring and lackluster NFL atmosphere, especially compared to a Buffalo, KC, Green Bay or Pittsburgh....all of which I've either been to or worked at. Overall, I rate the NFL experience in Baltimore a C- 85704[/snapback] This guy dosnt know what he is talking about!! Most people dont park around stadium they walk. We had a blast before and after in Federal Hill. Mothers and Cross Street Market. If the weather was better Mothers I would imagine is an even better place. A 5-10 walk you cant beat!! Stadium is great!! We moved around to 4 different sections in the upper each had great views. The food and beer was great. A little high at $7 a beer. They made noice and each time Bills couldnt handel the noise. I been to MOST THE STADIUMS and this ranks right up there. Baltimore has a lot of tradition, Unitiss and all. HopsGuy Posted October 26, 2004 Share Posted October 26, 2004 I was in Cleveland for a wedding this weekend. We decided to extend our trip and go see the Eagles-Browns game. Here's a brief synopsis: We got downtown around 10 AM and parked in a city lot for $6 (Nice!). We got some grub and a much needed Bloody Mary (Have you ever been to a wedding with Olean people? Only the strong survive). The illicit ticket market seemed a bit high, but as an experienced scapler, I could tell it was a buyers market. You just needed to be patient. We were able to get 3 tickets for about $20 over face, but 2 were together while the other was in the Dawg Pound. One of my buddies is a huge Browns fan, so he had no problem sitting alone. My other friend and I made our way up the ramp. My legs were burning when we got to our seats in the next-to-the last row of the upper deck. Still not so bad, though. I can't really comment on the tailgating as we didn't really venture into the parking lot. It didn't appear to rival what we have in OP, but I could be wrong. The game was great and the place was rocking. They have a rock and roll song/video with highlights and lyrics from the whole history of the Browns. No official Browns cheerleaders, but there were some high school girls doing the honors. The real kicker? GE Smith (remember the Saturday Night Live band?) had a band that played during the usually insufferable TV timeouts. Everything was cool... right up until TO made his first TD. Uggghhhh! The Browns battled back pretty well and the game was one of the better ones I've seen. I didn't really get to follow what was happening in Baltimore with the Bills. It seems that they don't list the Ravens on the out-of-town scoreboard. I guess they're still a little bitter about that whole abandoning the town for $$$ - thing. Go figure. We headed out to Pannini's to watch the late games (and chase women), and despite the loss it still a pretty decent scene. All in all, I'd give the experience an 8. jaycorp51 Posted October 26, 2004 Share Posted October 26, 2004 well in my opinion i think the stadium is quite nice. the jumbotrons and sound systems are top of the line and and the masonry work on the out side is very nice. but that's where my positives end. the fans are probably one of the worst in the league. with more than half the 4th quarter to go, the fans started filing out of the stadium and i probably felt more at home there than half the raven fans. i wasn't really heckled except for a few comments that were pretty pg-13. some of the cheesy jingles and other pump up tactics were horrible. the "we must protect this house" got old after the first 50 times. as far as my experience goes, the stadium was the highlight. very nice and well put together. but for overall tailgating, i'd rather be at the ralph any day of the week.
