Fewell733
The Reed injury looks to me like a big factor in this slump. huge. I think the lack of vets at receiver is a big detriment, and is made especially bad since we can't run the ball.
John Adams
He's their best blocker.
BuffaloWings
What's his status, anyway? I realize he's been injured since Miami, but does he have a chance at getting on the practice field anytime soon?

Jack Straw
Yeah, this was huge. Edwards knows how to find him, and he is a nice pressure release for other areas of the receiving game, as well as being a great blocker as was said. One problem with Losman was that he could never seem to find Reed, who really is a good player.
Dwight Drane
He's their best blocker. Notice how the counters and sweeps that worked the first few weeks are no longer working? Reed is 70% of our problems. Edwards LOVES Reed because Reed knows how to get open and knows how to run timing routes. Edwards is hesitant because teams just play Evans over/under and force Trent to dink and dunk to the likes of Royal/Hardy/Parrish/etc. Hardy is close to clueless, Parrish isn't the brightest bulb either, but at least he is game and can make plays, and Royal is Royal. Freddy Jackson is a weapon when Reed is in there because the defense now has to account for 3 true threats in Evans (long and stops), Reed (underneath and timing), and Jackson (flares, screens, draws). When Reed is out, teams can cheat both up on the line to stop the run and Jackson, and cheat back preventing any big plays to Evans....while leaving Reed's territory open for guys like Royal and Hardy to be forced to make plays. Jackson is good because of his quickness/shiftiness/and smarts....not because he is a blazing receiver. The O-line is only as good as the system. If things aren't working and Defenses are bringing people or receivers aren't getting open....it's over. Josh Reed on his own is not a Pro Bowler. What he brings to this offense in terms of synergy is so important. The front office blew it by not having any insurance in the form of WR/TE. We would have been terrific with him, Reed and Evans.

The front office blew it by not having any insurance in the form of WR/TE. Yes they did. I keep saying that everyone in the personnel department should be fired. They spent a ton of money on free agents and who did we get? Look at the Patriots, when they sign free agents they know what they're doing. There's no reason that the Bills couldn't have signed Welker, other than the fact that they were pissing money away on bums.
bills_fan_in_raleigh
Since Yuboty has been out our ability to get off the field on third down has diminished greatly.

Big Turk
I agree that Reed is vastly under-appreciated---especially how he can find soft spots in zones and how he continuously comes up clutch in 3rd down situations and produces first downs. That being said, Reed has no ability to stop the C and RG from being manhandled on half of the running plays resulting in a defender 2 or 3 yards deep in the backfield before Lynch gets the ball, and from becoming turnstiles on passing downs, so I am not sure how much even he could have helped. MartyBall4Buffalo
Yeah his 30 yards per game is tough to overcome Let's play the stats to fit your stance game. No 30 yards per game shouldn't be difficult to replace. Let's look at the real numbers. Btw reed avg's 41.1 ypg this year. His highest total in his bills career. Now.. In 7 games reed has 26 catches for 288 yards. Over a 16 game season he's looking at roughly around 60 catches for a little over 650 yards at around 11ypc. 17 of his 26 receptions have gone for 1st downs. Pretty respectable numbers for a #2 wideout. Throw in his ability as a blocker, and a safety valve option for edwards. His 11.1 ypc are about 2 more yards then roscoe parrish. His 3.6 yac are more then parrish. James Hardy meanwhile is a complete non factor. In context for the Bills, it is indeed tough to overcome.
