Rudyc80 Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I read on another board that Mularkey doesnt like shaws game and that may be the reason hes fallen behind sam aiken on the depth chart and to be honest i think if they cut shaw...they are NUTS!!! this guy was solid as hell for last year and what if we lose reed, moulds, or evans....aiken wont cut it!!! BONEHEAD MOVE IF THEY RELEASE SHAW! As far as Gildon, i just cant see how he cant at least be considered a decent backup at LB if nothing else, it seems they are really down on him and think he is done but like i said...he cant be that bad as a backup...can he. Preleau...plain and simple......HE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! Ive always said this and can wait till this bum is cut! I think they should cut mike Mckenzie instead of Gildon...but thats just me.
Alaska Darin Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Shaw = journeyman. Nothing more annoying than his celebrations over making a 7 yard catch. Not the least bit irreplaceable. Gildon isn't considered a decent backup linebacker because he's too one dimensional. You can't ask him to cover or drop into a zone - because he can't. He's always been fine at getting up the field. Maybe he's not doing that anymore?
ACor58 Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I could care less if Shaw stays or goes. If Gildon can't rush the passer any better than Ryan Denney he should be gone. Forget about keeping him as a backup LB, we don't need another Eddie Freakin' Robinson around here. I like Prioleau as a player and I don't really see a huge difference between him and Izell Reese. I think that Wire moving back behind Milloy and Baker playing well in the preseason might mean the end for him though.

BuffalOhio Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Somebody previously said that Sam Aiken looks a lot like Moulds. I couldn't agree more. I saw him walking back to the play, and he really really looks like Moulds. Hopefully, his game will be a lot like Eric's, too!
Fezmid Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Agreed on Shaw. His celebrations got on my nerves and he's not all that good. I say cut him. 6137 And let's not forget that he cost us a chance to win the Titans game last season when instead of catching the ball on the 2-pt conversion, he held it up and had it stripped. That said, I thought he was decent last year. CW
ch19079 Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 i said it befor and ill say it again. Gildon will NOT be cut this season. reason: hes on a 1 year deal, so hes gone after this year anyways he can play diffrent positions (LB and DE) He gives us depth at those 2 positions. cutting him dos NOTHING for us except give us an extra roster spot, and he will play ALOT more than some noname 3rd stiring backup. He givs leadership from his 13(?) year carrer. thankyou.....
zow2 Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Shaw blows! He's like every other Joe Average WR in the league. I'd rather see us develop a young guy like Aiken, Myers, Coleman, Smith or whoever? .
stevestojan Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Reed's not too much better than Shaw, folks.. at least shaw HAD something to showboat about - he actually caught the ball. thank god for TD picking up Evans... and lets home Moulds really is completly 100%.

Mikie2times Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Shaw is a mediocre journeyman player, he is a classic example of somebody that can fill the 3 or 4 spot and play adequate football. The problem is all you will ever get from Shaw is adequate football, he is not a play maker and as he ages we have no reason to believe he will ever become one. Aiken on the other hand is in his second season, he has all the physical skills to become a play maker at WR. I guarantee Shaw won't do anything for us this season that Aiken is not capable of doing. Why not give youth a chance?
Matt in KC Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I think both Gildon and Shaw stick as good second tier players at reasonable (if not rock bottom) prices. I thought Shaw was pretty solid last year. He's not a superstar, but he's got some savvy and matches up well w/ 2nd and 3rd CBs. If Aiken were showing more, Shaw's position might be in jeopardy for this year. I think we keep Moulds, Evans, Reed, Shaw and Aiken on the 53 man roster this year, and maybe Jonathan Smith (prob PS). Gildon looks to me like he's being used mainly as a roving pass rusher, hitting the line from different places, distracting the opponent's O-line. He has not impressed me in coverage, however (at all). The pass rush was night-and-day between the Broncos game and the Titans. In the first one, there were a lot of shifts, different looks (i.e. Denney in coverage!). For the Titans, we just lined up and rushed straight ahead. I wondered if they wanted to get a better look at the DB coverage skills or just not reveal too much about our D's attack in preseason. Mularkey's comments avbout Gildon make me think the Indi game will look more like our first one, changing up the attack, and will give us a better picture of what Gildon brings. "We need to get a better feel of how he's fitting in," Mularkey said. "We need to give him a chance. He hasn't gotten enough reps, and we'll probably do that more in this game."

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Reed had 58 catches. That doesn't sound too bad to me! From what I've read Shaw runs poor patterns, not very crisp. Reed's not too much better than Shaw, folks.. at least shaw HAD something to showboat about - he actually caught the ball. 6165
LabattBlue Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 My biggest problem with Shaw is last year he had no ability whatsoever to step up his game when Moulds went down. If Aiken and Reed can man the 3rd and 4th spots, I'm all for developing young talent that have some upside to their game.

I'm hoping Shaw stays, same with Gildon..but Pierson is a goner, here comes Rashad Baker
