Bills have window of opportunity; can line open it?

This is how the rest of the football season looks from here . . .

• If the Bills can’t coax a lot more than they have been getting from their overpaid free agents on the offensive line and some sort of worthwhile contribution from their draft choices, they ought to hire a general manager/director of football with a much keener eye for talent. This team can’t continue to fire nothing but blanks in any draft.

• Tom Brady recently turned 31, which means that when he returns to New England’s lineup next year he’ll still have about five productive seasons remaining as a top-of-the-line quarterback. Five seasons in the NFL is an eternity. If the Bills can’t beat the Brady-less Patriots, they may never do it with him back in the huddle.

• The emergence of diva wide receivers in pro football never ceases. Brandon Marshall of Denver almost cost the Broncos a penalty and possibly their last-minute victory over Cleveland on Thursday night when he tried to pull a pair of gloves, one black, one white, from his pants after he caught the go-ahead touchdown pass. His plan was to make some sort of statement about equality in the wake of the presidential election. That would have been similar to a contestant in the Miss America contest announcing that achieving “world peace” was her life’s goal.
