molson_golden2002
We are F'ked, basically. These are scary numbers. http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1107/p25s11-wmgn.html At the moment, Mr. Riedl sees a "base" deficit of $500 billion in fiscal 2009. Add to this $250 billion in immediate outlays under TARP, a $250 billion drop in revenues because of the recession, and a second stimulus package that could cost $250 billion, and you get a deficit of $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion. So finding money to pay for an Obama program won't be easy.

The thing was McCain's platform was just as questionable so it was a wash. Politics gives way to governing now.

GG
What does Bush running the country into the ground have to do with the options available to Obama? To quote a recent poster on this board: Wow, just wow! I guess you're back to idiotland. Where was your epiphany that the economy is in the dumps and it will be a long hard road to recovery one week ago. It doesn't matter how we got here, the point is Bush wasn't campaigning up until last week that he was going to fix everything and things will suddenly turn rosy on Jan 20 2009. Even, worse than that, there were enough lapdogs eating the stuff up while ignoring the economic realities. That's what the wow just wow was for. Not surprised that you didn't understand. Tomorrow's lesson will be why the sun always rises in the east and sets in the west.

W destroyed my party and has done great damage to my country.

elegantelliotoffen
Probably not, but raising taxes is not the way to solve the issue. I wasn't a rhetorical question, I'm just wondering which states aren't having these problems. There has to be at least a couple.
stuckincincy
Ya, your boy Bush sure has run our nation right into the ground. How? Two years ago, unemployment was at an historic low IIRC. The Dow was booming. Do you think Bush, Clinton, any President just waves his arm and the world-wide economy comes up roses? The world-wide screaming demand for petroleum just stops? If they had such power, they would...all of them...do so. Take a hard look at the 535 tin gods that collectively go by the name of "Congress"... Poor Obama. He, his Administration is going to go nuts dealing with the numerous self-aggrandizing, self-serving whack jobs that populate a meaningful share of his majority.
