Poeticlaw
In 2002 the Year we thought we got our saviour Drew Bledsoe We started out 5-3 with the next game against NE @ home(which we lost ) and ended the season 8-8 last in our division with Jets winning it with a record of 9-7 followed by NE 9-7 and MIAMI 9-7 who both missed the playoffs and we were 2-4 in the division. This year we think once again we have our saviour Trent Edwards and again we are 5-3 going into NE with the rest of the Division Just as tight as 2002. THis is a MUST win if the division keeps up the competivtive pace because in the division the tie breaker is the division record and head to head since we can do no better than tie with JETS and MIA at this point in that catergory we need to sweep the NE Pats which is a daunting task since we have won only once against them in this decade. The major difference between 2002 and 2008 2002 we had a team, recievers, runner and a decent CB's and LBS this year we are essentially weak in every category but lets see if they can pull out the miracle! Another big difference is that our team now is young and still learning to win. These ups and down will help us in the future. GO BILLS!
2003Contenders
Another big difference is that Bledsoe caught everyone by surprise. However, by the midpoint of the season, the book was out on him, and he never resembled the same player that we saw in those first 8 games of 2002. Edwards is still learning the position and should only get better from here on out.
Cotton Fitzsimmons
Another big difference is that Bledsoe caught everyone by surprise. However, by the midpoint of the season, the book was out on him, and he never resembled the same player that we saw in those first 8 games of 2002. Obviously Bledsoe sucked down the stretch in '02, but I never understood the argument that other teams finally figured him out or got the book on him. He was a 10 year veteran at that point who had been to 3 Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl. I think any books to be written had long since been out on him. bizell
the pattern of bledsoe was: start out hot for half a year to a year, then fade and fail miserably from then on. err, at least in buffalo and dallas it was.
BillsVet
Another big difference is that our team now is young and still learning to win. These ups and down will help us in the future. GO BILLS! It's ridiculous to make the argument that youth universally equates to a lack of success. Looking around the league, a bunch of teams are young, yet have won games. Through half a season, Atlanta has been solid, despite a rookie HC, rookie QB, revamped OL, and the departure of veteran players. In 2007, five of the eight youngest NFL teams made the playoffs. NFL average team age 2008 It can be said the Bills were rebuilding for 06 and 07. This season was supposed to be different, and youth alone cannot be cited as a reason for going 1-3 in the past four games. This is not to say the season is over, not by a long shot. But until the coaches start out-game planning their opposition, you could have the most veteran roster out there and it won't matter. At the heart of the Buffalo Bills, stretching back to 2002 and perhaps before, was a lack of good coaching.
rockpile
I try to deal with things one week at a time. It is hard not to look at the past or future and specualte, though. What bothers me the most is the Bills started HOT and are now working on tweaking their performance to get that winner mentality back. The rest of the AFC East is recovering from weaker starts than the Bills and gaining confidence. I do not know if the Bills are gaining confidence, or just trying to hang on! It is time for a few key team leaders to step up and deliver on their potential, and it is time for the coaches to step up and lead the team. This is especially true of Jauron since he is no longer a Buffalo rookie coach and just signed a contract extension. A coach needs to be like a quarterback and "call audibles" to the game plan in the course of a game. I am not passing judgement on Jauron or anyone else - just stating the way I see it. Time to sh-- or get off the pot.
