duey Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=20e_1225905552 I'd love to know who came up with this and what their reason was.
Bullpen Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=20e_1225905552 I'd love to know who came up with this and what their reason was. I know, I kept waiting for Wolf Blitzer to announce Palpatine was going to beam a transmission to us. "The time has come. Execute order 66."
duey Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 And I kept asking myself...why the hell are they beaming in someone from Chicago?! If she were on the moon, I could understand it...but Chicago?! I was actually waiting for Spock to show up next.
udonkey Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Hearing them say "thank you for joining us via hologram" made me want to shoot someone
Corp000085 Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 NBC had a really stupid green room/floor deal to show a virtual green column thing. Also, there was the virtual capitol building that randomly showed up on the cnn desk. it actually froze the first time they did it.
EndZoneCrew Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I watched on PBS. No frills. I watched it on CTV
ACor58 Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I watched it on CTV The next President is Obama eh.
eSJayDee Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Was that really a hologram? Looks to me like it could have just as easily been 1 digital image melded w/ another live. She's surrounded by bluescreen, filmed, background is removed then the 2 images merged. Am I missing something? Cool, but hardly a hologram.
Steely Dan Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I think it's frigging awesome. I think it was cool too. The networks are all fighting for viewers to their election coverage and because there are so many they have to use some tricks or gimmicks that nobody else uses. Why they just couldn't have called her up on camera from Chicago is mystifying. They put a lot of money in that only because it's cool and for no real journalistic purpose. I guess they were hoping the stoned people watching the coverage because they were too lazy to change the channel would call their friends and tell them how freaky it is and to change the channel.

Steely Dan Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 It's the first step to having a holographic news anchor you can punch in the face in your own living room. Fux Knus ratings would go through the roof!!
buckeyemike Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 And I kept asking myself...why the hell are they beaming in someone from Chicago?! If she were on the moon, I could understand it...but Chicago?! I was actually waiting for Spock to show up next. All I could think of was "Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope."
Fan in Chicago Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 It's the first step to having a holographic news anchor you can punch in the face in your own living room. Fux Knus ratings would go through the roof!! All along I was hoping each of those 36 cameras were fitted with x-ray vision lenses.

Buftex Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I think CNN jumped the shark, much earlier, around January 2005, when they dumbed themselves down, to fit the demographics of the people who gave GW a "mandate" and "capitol that he intended to spend". CNN was getting their asses kicked by FOX, so they got rid of journalists like Aaron Brown, in favor of a-holes like Glen Beck, and pop stars like Cooper Anderson. I loathe FOX News, and all it stands for, but I have found myself wathching it, and MSNBC more than CNN, than ever. The only thing worth tuning in to CNN for is their Sunday Night specials, and the hot chick that is Cooper Andersons' sidekick. Can't remember her name, but she sure is purty!
HopsGuy Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Like anybody cares about using this technology for the news. The real question is when can it be applied to porn. Exactly my friend. About 15 years ago Dennis Miller was talking about "Virtual Reality" and said "The day that an unemployed auto-worker can sit in his barcalounger with a can of Fosters in one hand and a channel flicker in the other and F$%K Claudia Shiffer for $19.95, it's gonna make crack look like Sanka." It's really just the next step towards becoming an Eloi.
Beerball Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I'm missing the point of the whole darn thing. If it took 30+ cameras and 20+ computers why bother. Did it enhance the message? Nope. Was it anything but gimmicky? Nope.
